  •

Denmark now face Portugal on Wednesday, whilst Netherlands face the mighty Germany.

  •

Brilliant win for Denmark, though, and they followed through on their tactics perfectly. Kvist and Zimling in midfield were industrious and laid the platform, whilst Krohn-Dehli provided the moment of quality to clinch the game.

  •

Sneijder was excellent at the point of the Netherlands midfield, providing plenty of chances for his side's finishers. Unfortunately, Van Persie and Robben in particular misfired badly.

  •

Netherlands mustered 28 shots on goal, but were unbelievably wasteful. Denmark defended well throughout, allowing the Dutch to shoot from range and took their goal brilliantly.

  • 90'

    FULL TIME Netherlands 0-1 Denmark

  • 90'

Sneijder once more orchastrating proceedings and picks out Kuyt on the right this time. A poor cross is easily cleared.

  • 90'

Sneijder, Netherlands' best attacking player, picks out Van Persie with a cross towards the edge of the area. Flicked over by the Arsenal striker.

  • 90'

Corner swung in by Sneijder from the left. Three Dutch players compete for the ball at the far-post. Headed wide by Heitinga.

  • 90'

    Three minutes added-time...

  • 90'

Handball? Big appeals from Netherlands once more as the ball rebounds in the Danish area. Huntelaar is convinced, but nothing is given.

  • 89'

Almost a chance for Denmark directly from a long Andersen clearence. Bendtner gets in behind the defence but, Stekelenburg is out quickly to claim.

  • 88'

Kuyt looks to pick out Van Persie with a cross from the right, but his cross is badly misdirected and claimed by Andersen.

  • 87'

Not content with my last comment, Kjaer makes an outstanding sliding tackle to dispossess Sneijder. The other half of the Danish defensive duo.

  • 86'

Everything the Dutch try now is being picked off. Excellent defending from Denmark with Agger leading the way.

  • 85'

STAT Denmark have never lost a European Championship game when scoring first.

  • 85'

    Kuyt replaces Van der Wiel

  • 84'

    Mikkelsen replaces Rommedahl

  • 83'

Sneijder swings in a cross towards his two central target-men, but it is comfortably dealt with by Andersen in the Danish goal.

  • 82'

Netherlands looking devoid of ideas now. Under ten minutes left to play and two tough group games remaining.

  • 81'

Kvist now enters the book for a handball on the ground, followed by throwing the ball away.

  • 80'

Poulsen was booked in amongst all that for time-wasting over a throw-in.

  • 79'

Arjen Robben is having a nightmare. Cutting in off that flank once more, he shoots well over the bar for about the tenth time!

  • 78'

Poulsen now turns up at the other end, driving between two defenders towards the area. Heitinga steps in to halt his progress.

  • 77'

Van Persie now looks to create an opportunity for Robben, laying the ball off to his left. Simon Poulsen does well to get in ahead of the Bayern winger.

  • 76'

At the other end, Rommedahl's pace almost gets him on the end of a long through-ball. Stekelenburg just beats the Danish flyer to the ball, but spills it in the process. Cleared eventually.

  • 75'

Brief delay as Andersen receives treatment...

  • 74'

Huntelaar now misses a great chance. Having been slipped through by Sneijder, the forwards left-footed shot is well saved by Andersen, who then recovers well to block Van Persie's follow-up effort.

  • 74'

    Schone replaces Eriksen

  • 73'

Van der Vaart makes an immediate impact. Finding space on the right of the area, the Spurs midfielder roles a teasing ball across goal with no-one gambling to turn the ball home.

  • 72'

Robben looks once again to cut onto his left-foot from the right flank, but Daniel Agger once more is a man mountain and dispossesses him with ease.

  • 71'

Van der Vaart and Huntelaar replace De Jong and Afellay

  • 70'

Good save from Stekelenburg now. Goalscorer Krohn-Dehli cuts in onto his right-foot once more and tests the keeper, who responds with a fine save low to his right.

  • 69'

Holland preparing to bring on Huntelaar and Van der Vaart. Van Marwijk has seen enough of this!

  • 68'

Once more the Danes work an overlap on the right, but Jacobsen's cross on this occasion is horrendously overhit. The ball comes back to the right again and Rommedahl's delivery is better. Corner.

  • 67'

Van Bommel for a foul on Kvist in midfield.

  • 66'

Ambitious ball from Vlaar looking to pick out Sneijder, intercepted with ease by Agger.

  • 65'

Down the other end, Robben looks to make amends for that last miss. However, his left foot strike is pulled off target.

  • 64'

Jacobsen marauds down the right and crosses low this time. Hoofed clear by Heitinga.

  • 63'

What a miss! Wonderous ball from Sneijder, whipped in from the left, and he picks out Robben six yards out. Headed wide under minimal pressure. So, so poor.

  • 62'

It's a good delivery and Heitinga wins the header back across goal, but the Everton defender had strayed offside.

  • 61'

Kvist is penalised for a high-foot in midfield, whilst moments later Jacobsen fouls Willems. Chance for Sneijder to whip in a cross.

  • 60'

Corner to Netherlands. Sneijder had slipped Van Persie into space on the left, but well marshalled by Jacobsen. Corner claimed by Andersen.

  • 59'

Free-kick 25 yards our for Netherlands, taken by Sneijder. Straight into the wall. Follow up shot by Van Bommel is wild and high into the crowd.

  • 57'

Zimling picks out a fine pass to release Jacobsen on the left, who has time and space once more. His cross is overhit, though, giving Bendtner no chance.

  • 56'

A Bendtner shot to nothing is blocked and Netherlands come forward again, this attack fades out quickly and Denmark have the ball once more.

  • 55'

Denmark keeping possession for a minute or two, looking to threaten the Dutch defence. There are gaps there, that's for sure.

  • 54'

Poulsen does brilliantly on the left and spins Van der Wiel. He rolls the ball across the six-yard box, just ahead of Bendtner, with Afellay tracking back well to clear at the far-post.

  • 53'

Two corners in a row for Netherlands and this time Heitinga rises highest to power a header just over the bar. Denmark need to release the pressure.

  • 52'

Netherlands could hardly be more in control now and Afellay has two shots in the space of a minute. The second is better and rolls just wide of the left upright. Impressive response from the Oranje

  • 51'

Talking of good saves, this one isn't bad. A bullet from Mark Van Bommel saved well by the Danish stopper down to his right.

  • 50'

RVP, as he is known these days, almost makes immediate amends. Right-footed from the edge of the area, his low shot on the turn is well saved by Andersen.

  • 49'

Netherlands have made a much better start to the second-half and Van Persie wastes another shooting chance. This time a massive swing at the ball misses completely as the striker slips and the ball rolls to safety.

  • 48'

Corner swung in from the right by Sneijder. Van Persie beats Kjaer to the header, but under-pressure it flies well wide of the target.

  • 47'

Still the Dutch in possession. Robben cuts in off the right once more and aims for the far corner. Shot deflected for a corner.

  • 46'

Netherlands quickly on the ball and working the left-channel. Van Persie squeezes a ball to Sneijder, but the Inter midfielder can't get a shot away.

  • 46'

SECOND-HALF underway in Kharkiv. The Danish kicking-off.

  •

The teams are out then. Second-half is about to get going. Netherlands really need to up the tempo to get a result from this game.

  •

William Kvist in the centre of the park for Denmark has had a good half, very tidy midfielder. Coming off the back of a good season for Stuttgart also.

  •

Denmark have looked shaky at times at the back, but their performers higher up the pitch have shown up.

  •

We mentioned the Dutch defence before the game. They are not the strongest and the Danes have shown them up a few times. A lot to work on for Van Marwijk's boys.

  •

Denmark have created chances, but Netherlands were the better team until the goal. Very wasteful, with Robben and Van Persie guilty,

  •

Do we have a shock on our hands then? Netherlands have been wasteful and been stung by a fine goal from Krohn-Dehli.

  • 45'

    HALF-TIME Netherlands 0-1 Denmark

  • 45'

    One minute added-time...

  • 45'

Swung in from the right, the corner picks out Agger at the back post. A terrible first-touch runs through to Stekelenburg.

  • 44'

The cool, calm passing of Netherlands early on has faded. Conceding the ball easily once more. Jacobsen gets forward down the right and wins his side a corner.

  • 43'

Oh dear! Van Persie has to score. He is in acres of space inside the area and is found by Sneijder, but his first-touch is awful. Andersen rushes out and blocks the eventual right-foot shot. What a waste.

  • 42'

Krohn-Dehli determined to make an impact. A right-foot strike this time from 20 yards. Saved well by Stekelenburg.

  • 41'

Eriksen having a busy game in midfield, linking the attack well for the Danes.

  • 40'

Another chance for Denmark. Jacobsen has time and space to cross from the right and picks out Zimling, whose left-footed volley is screwed wide. Maybe should have left it for Krohn-Dehli behind him.

  • 39'

Ibrahim Afellay skips past Daniel Agger with ease and lashes a shot at goal. Narrowly over the bar.

  • 38'

Heitinga lucky to avoid a booking there. Bendtner comes deep to retrieve the ball and the Everton defender slices through him from behind.

  • 37'

Denmark have a let off, but Netherlands look to have been given a new burst of energy.

  • 36'

POST! Denmark goalkeeper Andersen gives the ball away and Netherlands have a huge overlap. Robben, though, refuses to pass and shoots himself. Hits the base of the post.

  • 35'

Best spell of the match for Denmark now, keeping the ball well.

  • 34'

Once more Rommedahl looks for Bendtner and finds him this time. Bendtner chests down, but Ron Vlaar steps in to clear.

  • 33'

Denmark counter and move the ball to Rommedahl on the right. The former-Charlton man looks to cross for Bendtner, but its a poor effort. Stekelenburg claims.

  • 32'

Cautious progress from Netherlands and Van Persie has it on the right. Cuts onto his left-foot, but in slides Agger to dispossess him.

  • 31'

Netherlands back to a full contingent of 11 again, but they are struggling to raise the tempo. Denmark doing well to keep them at bay now.

  • 30'

Bit of a delay in proceedings as Afellay receives treatment, but we are underway once more.

  • 29'

Nothing was given, but Netherlands have a corner. Swung in from the right and Vlaar makes contact, but across the face.

  • 28'

Handball! Could be a penalty to Holland. Van Persie crosses and Robben heads down, Simon Poulsen looks to bring the ball clear but it skips up and he clearly handles the ball.

  • 26'

Back to more slow, patient Dutch build-up play. They are doing the right things, but they are behind.

  • 25'

Massive shock in Kharkiv so far. Netherlands had looked comfortable.

  • 24'

GOAL Netherlands 0-1 Denmark Krohn-Dehli does brilliantly!!! Brondby winger Michael Krohn-Dehli receives the ball on the left, bursts past the helpless Van der Wiel and Heitinga and fires low through the legs of Stekelenburg.

  • 23'

Van Persie gets yet another tame effort away. This time he turns Kjaer and shoots right-footed.

  • 22'

Back to Netherlands possession. Van Persie looks to knock-down a long-ball to Sneijder, but Agger defends well to deny the Inter star.

  • 21'

Poor corner and Denmark counter. Foul given on Eriksen by Jetro Willems. Looked like Eriksen made the most of that.

  • 20'

Corner to Holland. Daniel Agger kicks the ball clear, just as Robin Van Persie was attempting a diving header.

  • 19'

Robben may live to regret that. Horrendous waste from the Bayern man.

  • 18'

What a waste. Robben is in acres of space in the left-channel and has two players haring in at the back-post. It is screaming out for him to shoot, but he attempts an outside of the foot pass and one of Denmark's two men in defence intercepts.

  • 17'

Slow start to this one. Very different encounter to the opening games yesterday.

  • 16'

Robben looks to add some impotus to the move, cutting in onto that fabled left-foot and shooting at goal. Saved by Andersen.

  • 15'

Wonderful spell of passing from the Dutch, prodding and probing across the field.

  • 14'

Denmark just need to settle down a little. A little panicky in defence in the face of Netherlands' attacking might.

  • 13'

Anti-climactic from Van Persie. The Arsenal stiker slips on contact and the ball hits the wall once more.

  • 12'

Chance now! Van Persie looks to shoot on his left-foot, brought down by Zimling 25 yards out. Free-kick.

  • 11'

Van Persie does well to pick out Sneijder at the back-post. The Inter Milan midfielder does well to get a head on the ball, but off-target.

  • 10'

Good play from Afellay on the left, cutting onto his right-foot, squaring up Jacobsen with a step-over and curling a shot over the bar.

  • 9'

It's a terrible effort from the Ajax youngster. Straight at the wall from a good position. Wasted.

  • 8'

Dangerous free-kick for Denmark won by Niklas Bendtner. Central, 25 yards out. What can Christian Eriksen conjure up?

  • 7'

Now a chance for Van Persie and it's on his favoured left-foot. Should test the keeper from inside the area, but his shot rolls tamely wide.

  • 5'

Difficult chance for Afellay. Van Persie does well to keep the ball in-play with a back-post header, Afellay fires over.

  • 4'

Netherlands once more slowing the game down, looking to take control of proceedings. Sneijder getting himself involved.

  • 3'

First shot for Netherlands then and it is Jetro Willems. A rising drive from 35 yards for the PSV youngster. Comfortably over the bar.

  • 2'

Early free-kick for Denmark, swung in from the right and Daniel Agger wins the header at the near-post. Straight to Stekelenberg.

  • 1'

Netherlands in possession initially then and they work the ball back to Stekelenberg. Nerves from Vlaar at centre-back, though, clearing the ball into touch. Throw-in.

  • 1'

    KICK OFF!

  •

Pre-match proceedings dealt with, we are a moment from kick-off now.

  •

Anthem time in Kharkiv. Denmark first.

  •

Here they come. What a moment for Jetro Willems of all players. Youngest ever player to play in a European Championship

  •

The teams are in the tunnel then. In a group as strong as this one, every point will count. The pressure is on!

  •

Suring them up, though, will be the midfield base of Mark Van Bommel and Nigel de Jong. As walls go, this one is fairly solid.

  •

Holland will be hoping to put on a show after their last outing in a major competition, when they were heavily criticised for their tactics in the World Cup final. A brilliant qualification campaign followed, but there are worries about the defence.

  •

Interesting battle between Jetro Willems and Dennis Rommedahl, the 18-year-old full-back marking the experienced Danish flyer. One to watch.

  •

This is, of course, the first clash of two former champions so far this tournament. Netherlands, winners in 1988, against Denmark, winners in 1992.

  •

Christian Eriksen is Denmark's brightest young talent

  •

With Germany and Portugal also in the group, Denmark will need to cause an upset or two if they are to progress, but Eriksen has told FourFourTwo magazine: "We're capable of ruffling a few feathers."

  •

Denmark will be hoping Ajax starlet Eriksen can make a big impact for them this summer, but Bendtner has also impressed in the past for the national team while left winger Krohn-Dehli is a talent to keep an eye on.

  •

The Denmark team is as follows: Stephan Andersen; Lars Jacobsen, Daniel Agger, Simon Kjaer, Simon Poulsen; William Kvist, Niki Zimling; Dennis Rommedahl, Christian Eriksen, Michael Krohn-Dehli; Nicklas Bendtner.

  •

Afellay gets the nod after impressing during the warm-up games, while Willems - who turned 18 at the end of March - becomes the youngest player in the tournament's history. Belgium's Enzo Scifo in 1984 was the previous youngest.

  •

Netherlands have named the following team for the match: Maarten Stekelenburg; Gregory van der Wiel, Johnny Heitinga, Ron Vlaar, Jetro Willems; Mark van Bommel, Nigel de Jong; Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Ibrahim Afellay; Robin van Persie.

  •

Bert van Marwijk leads a training session ahead of Euro 2012

  •

Rafael van der Vaart said during the week that it is time for Netherlands to seize their chance and win Euro 2012.

  •

Netherlands, of course, went on to reach the final of the World Cup, and they are among the favourites to claim glory this summer.

  •

Netherlands take on Denmark in a rerun of their group opener at the 2010 World Cup. The Dutch won 2-0 that day, with Dirk Kuyt scoring late on after his Liverpool team-mate had scored an own goal.

  •

Live commentary will appear here from 1700 BST.
