Stamford Bridge, England
Referee: Lee Mason
The result is harsh on West Brom, who defended fantastically and probably deserved a point.
FULL TIME Chelsea get their first win under Andre Villas-Boas, but they were made to work very hard for it.
Hilario catches another long ball and is in no rush to get the game restarted.
Confident goalkeeping from Hilario, who comes out 10 yards to pluck the ball from the air.
Mikel now brings down Odemwingie. A chance for West Brom to get the ball in box...
Can West Brom create one more chance?
Odemwingie is now booked after a fracas with Cole.
FOUR MINUTES ADDED TIME
Terry is booked for his reaction.
Terry has a handful of Odemwingie's shirt and is very unhappy. The Chelsea captain seems to think Odemwingie stamped on him as he slid in for a challenge, but it looked completely accidental.
Odemwingie with a glorious chance to level for West Brom! Morrison whipped in a cross from the right which fell for Odemwingie, who had time and space to fire his volley at goal. His shot was straight at Hilario.
Graham Dorrans on for Youssuf Mulumbu
Ramires handles the ball as he goes down near the half-way line. Free-kick to West Brom.
Chelsea are five minutes away from their first win under Andre Villas-Boas, but they have had to work very hard for it.
Heartbreaking for West Brom, they have performed admirably and probably deserve a point.
GOAL Malouda with a second for Chelsea! Fantastic work from Bosingwa, who darts between two West Brom defenders and fires a perfect cross to the far post, where Malouda side-foots home.
A chance for Chelsea as Anelka races clear. Inexplicably, Ben Foster races 40 yards out of his goal. Anelka can only guide his side-foot effort wide of the post, to the relief of Foster.
After a melee from the cross, Lampard sees his attempt loop over the crossbar.
West Brom clear the first delivery, but concede another corner from Cole's second.
Chelsea corner as Morrison slices Malouda's low cross behind...
Luckily for Albion Tamas is back on his feet as Chelsea come forward. Ashley Cole runs into the are and gets off a low shot which is saved by the legs of Foster.
Gabriel Tamas is currently receiving treatment, a part of the defence which has done so well so far.
Peter Odemwingie on for Somen Tchoyi
The cross is too long and evades everyone, including the leaping John Terry.
Corner to Chelsea after Ramires makes a surge forward...
The game a little quiet at the moment, which will suit West Brom down to the ground.
20 minutes to go, can either team snatch all three points?
An outstanding cross from Ivanovic, which bends behind the West Brom defence and is just to long for the stretching Drogba.
Much better from Chelsea now. A neat exchange between Ramires and Lampard releases Anelka, who clips a shot over the bar as Foster rushes out.
Peter Odemwingie is ready to be introduced. It would be an attacking move by Hodgson.
Roy Hodgson rarely looks anything other than twitchy, but he does not look comfortable on the West Brom bench. I think he knows how close West Brom are to a fantastic result.
Branislav Ivanovic on for Alex
The next moment, Chelsea are threatening again. Anelka's driven cross comes to Drogba, whose sidefoot is guided wide.
The game seems to have settled down again after Chelsea's flurry. West Brom have done well to weather the mini-storm.
Brunt's deep cross is cleared at the far post.
Tchoyi forces a fine save from Hilario. Some excellent footwork, and then a left-footed curler from the edge of the box which is palmed around the post for a corner...
Chelsea snatch possession and look to launch a quick counter-attack. Anelka looks to release Drogba with an early ball, but West Brom are alert to the danger and intercept the pass.
Torres with another underwhelming day at the office. Drogba will present an entirely different threat to West Brom.
Didier Drogba on for Fernando Torres
Didier Drogba is stripped and ready...
It should be 2-1 to Chelsea. Anelka with time and space 10-yards from goal can only find the legs of Foster, from the rebound, Steven Reid makes a sensational block to stop a certain goal.
The cross runs all the way through to Malouda at the far post. His well struck half-volley is deflected and cleared Long.
Chelsea with their tails up now, Lampard's shot deflected over the crossbar for a corner...
A chance for West Brom to restore their lead immediately! Morrison does excellently to reach the touchline, his cross finds Scharner at the far post and the Austrian heads over from six-yards out.
GOAL Anelka finds the equaliser! Anelka squared for Lampard, who through himself to the ground looking for a penalty which would never have been given. The ball fell back to Anelka, whose deflected drive crept in at the far post.
Great tracking back from Steven Reid, his sliding challenge blocks Anelka's low cross. The ball cannoned back off the Chelsea man to run out for a goal kick.
Fernando Torres needs to be replaced, the Spaniard is woefully short of form. He is released by Ramires, but his attempt to cut inside is easily halted by Jonas Olsson.
West Brom free kick again, Mulumbu hauled down in the centre circle by Anelka.
Brunt's cross is overhit and runs through to Hilario.
West Brom clear and earn a free kick on the counter. Brunt over the dead ball...
Torres attempts to twist and turn through the Albion defence but his shut out. His appeals for a foul go unanswered. An early corner for Chelsea...
West Brom were absolutely outstanding in the first half and fully deserve to be in the lead. They look like a confident Premier League side under Roy Hodgson.
Yossi Benayoun's creativity and eye for a pass could unlock West Brom's defence for Chelsea. Something has to change if they are to get anything out of this.
Things could have been a lot worse for Chelsea if Shane Long had found Tchoyi with his low cross. The home team looked very weak at the back and toothless up top.
A terrible opening half from Chelsea, summed up by Salomon Kalou being hauled off after half an hour. Torres has been ordinary, Drogba surely needs to be introduced?
HALF TIME Alex's error gifted Shane Long the opener after four minutes, and Chelsea haven't woken up since. A dream half for West Brom, Andre Villas-Boas work to do.
Better from Chelsea, Anelka's header forces Foster into a routine save.
TWO MINUTES ADDED TIME
A lucky break for West Brom! Alex's low drive takes a deflection right into the hands of Ben Foster, who had already dived. The keeper looks shocked and relieved.
Youssuf Mulumbu hauls down Torres on the edge of the box and goes in the book. A dangerous free-kick...
Penalty appeals from Chelsea as West Brom make their first error. Shorey attempts to chest Malouda's cross back to Foster but Anelka intercepts. The striker knocks the ball around Foster and is brought down. I have seen them given.
More set-point disappointment as West Brom comfortably deal with the cross.
Cole forces Foster into a fine save with a sliced 25-yard drive. The closest Chelsea have come and they have a corner...
Ashley Cole heads clear. Will Chelsea wake up before half-time?
Another West Brom corner...
Malouda's first contribution? A trip on Tamas. Villas-Boas with work to do.
A bizarre game of head tennis between Terry and Hilario. A bizarre performance from Chelsea full stop.
Villas-Boas with a very Mourinho-like move. In fairness, Kalou has been awful.
Florent Malouda on for Salomon Kalou
Frank Lampard is carded for a cynical trip on Long as he looked to break.
Torres shows a turn of pace to accelerate towards the byline, his path is blocked by Shorey.
Anelka starting to look lively. His deflected cross almost falls to Kalou in the penalty area before being lashed clear.
A glimmer of a chance for Chelsea, Anelka slips in Lampard who sees his opening snuffed out. John Terry slices an outrageous 25-yard shot wide.
Tchoyi, who has been very impressive so far, ducks inside Boswinga and drags a low shot wide of the near post.
Chelsea trying to thread their way through West Brom's defence, but the Baggies won't budge.
Chelsea are getting frustrated and have conceded a free-kick. They unable to boss the game at the moment and all credit must go to West Brom.
It should be 2-0 to West Brom and Chelsea are on the ropes a little here. Brunt clips a delightful ball over the top for Long, who is in behind and has Tchoyi waiting in the box. Tchoyi would have had a simple tap-in, but Long's cross is over hit. What a chance.
Nicolas Anelka, who I must admit I'd forgotten was playing, finally gets involved. He gets his head to Bosingwa's cross and floats a header into Foster's arms.
West Brom attacking again, Chris Brunt's high, whipped cross is too long and goes out of play.
More frustration for Chelsea who are hitting dead-ends when they come forward. It's all been very easy for West Brom so far.
Torres gets his first shot at goal. Kalou involved again, he didn't see Ashley Cole making a fantastic overlapping run and feeds Torres instead. The Spaniard's rising shot clears the bar.
The corner is again cleared but West Brom keep the pressure on. John Terry sees off Steven Reid's cross.
West Brom corner after Tchoyi runs at Alex...
Chelsea are not at the races so far today, Kalou again comes forward only to release a loose pass and concede possession.
The resulting corner is hammered away at the near post.
Paul Scharner comes close to doubling West Brom's lead! Released in behind Ashley Cole, his drive from a tight angle is fisted away for a corner by Hilario.
You could hear a pin drop at the Bridge right, the away end aside of course. Not the start Villas-Boas would have had in mind.
Neat play from Kalou, slaloming through several challenges before lashing a 20-yard effort high over Ben Foster's goal.
Alex rises to meet the cross as he looks to make ammends. His knock down is hoofed clear.
First corner of the game to Chelsea after good pressing from Ramires.
It hasn't been the high-intensity response you would expect from Chelsea, although there is a very long way to go in this one.
A very subdued atmosphere at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans seem stunned by their team conceding so early and in such a terrible manner.
Chelsea are starting to get their passing going now as they look for a quick response to Long's goal.
A decent cross from Jose Bosingwa, Ramires gets his head to it but it would have to be an incredible header to score from the edge of the box. It's not and it goes wide.
Gabriel Tamas is the first man in the book after a late trip on Kalou.
Who saw that coming? Terrible defending from Chelsea, well just from Alex really. A composed finish from Long, two goals in two games for the Ireland striker.
GOAL Shane Long puts West Brom in the lead! Alex doses in possession, Long nicks the ball and races clear to slot past Hilario! A wonderful start for West Brom.
Fernando Torres involved for the first time, committing a foul and conceding a free kick.
Hilario in action early doors, the keeper rushing out to clear as Shane Long looks to latch onto Chris Brunt's pass.
After a rainy afternoon, the sun is out in west London and the conditions are perfect.
The lesser-spotted Hilario making an appearance for Chelsea today. Remember him?
The teams are making their way out at a sun-soaked Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fans already in tears at the Bridge. Imagine what will happen if they lose?!
Shane Long plays in a lone role up front for the Baggies, Roy Hodgson preferring the Irishman to last season's top scorer Peter Odemwingie.
Villas-Boas lines up with an attack of Salomon Kalou, Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres with Didier Drogba on the bench. No Romelu Lukaku today.
Chelsea fans get their first look at Andre Villas-Boas' side as the Portuguese boss takes charge of his first home game against West Brom.
