White Hart Lane, England
Referee: Michael Jones
FULL TIME Well, that was a complete battering. Tottenham were superior even before Adam was sent off and exerted their superiority after Skrtel followed him down the tunnel. Spurs back on track, Liverpool have a lot of questions to answer.
The final insult for Liverpool as Adebayor is all alone in the box, Carragher playing him on, and the striker brings it down and lashes home.
GOAL Adebayor gets his second!
A clash between Lucas and Parker as Spurs move upfield and win a corner.
Threee minutes added....
VDV gets through and tries a chip but Reina stood tall and saved.
Elsewhere, Aguero has scored for Man City to make it 1-0 at Fulham while Sunderland lead Stoke 2-0.
Enrique gets a great cross in down the left and Carroll very nearly gets his head on it.
Bale's shooting is still off from range. Another one fizzes over.
The game very much dying out now.
A shot from Spearing goes wide to ironic cheers from Tottenham fans.
An excellent cross from Dos Santos but no-one gambling on it in the six-yard box.
Defoe makes way for Giovani Dos Santos and King goes off for Bassong.
Charlie Adam takes out Scott Parker right in front of the referee.
I'd be telling them to get forward and try and boost their goal difference.
What sort of an appetite do Spurs have to try and pile on the goals in the last ten minutes? Do they want to just conserve energy?
Liverpool forced back to the keeper as Spurs press them, then Parker nicks the ball from Spearing.
Should have been another goal as Assou-Ekotto crossed and Bale and VDV both mis-hit it.
Bale goes up for a header as Reina meets a cross and Liverpool get a free kick.
Stat attack: The other two occasions in the PL era when Spurs have scored three goals v Liverpool have seen both games end 3-3. Unlikely.
Luis Suarez 'scores' an offside goal for Liverpool.
Liverpool praying for the final whistle already.
Spurs playing at walking pace now and fans "ole-ing" every touch.
Suarez and Downing make way, Bellamy and Spearing come on.
This is truly the darkest day for Liverpool since Kenny returned. Ill-discipline, second best in most departments and poor at the back.
"Are you Arsenal in disguise," sing Tottenham's fans.
A cracking finish after Reina fluffed an easy shot from Defoe. He dinks it over the keeper then slides it into an empty net.
Down to nine men and still 25 minutes left. This could get worse yet for Liverpool.
What a woeful day for Liverpool. VDV finds Defoe in acres of space, Defoe is held up initially by Enrique but twists to find space and fire low into the net.
GOAL Game over! Defoe scores!
A fully deserved yellow to add to the one he got in the first half - on Bale again. An awful day for the club.
Skrtel gets a red card for piling through the back of Bale and Liverpool are down to nine.
Justice done perhaps as Suarez floats the free kick over the bar.
Suarez buys a free kick from Kaboul after getting the tiniest of bumps. Great control before that to bring it down but never a free kick.
Suarez tries an overhead kick from a long throw but Kaboul does well to block it.
The longer this goes on at only 1-0 the more Spurs will get edgy. Atmosphere is flat too.
Bale has another pop at goal but had runners with him.
Harsh free kick given against Enrique as Walker ran at him.
Liverpool chasing shadows a little now. Spurs need the cushion of number two.
Nice football from Spurs with Modric and VDV operating just in front of Parker. Bale shoots wide.
Good tracking back from Carroll as he chases Bale and wins the ball with a sliding tackle.
Sloppy possession from both teams - Liverpool have the excuse of less options of course.
A rather theatrical tumble in the box from Carroll but Assou-Ekotto did have a hold of his arm.
Another sight of goal for Defoe but this shot from 20 yards is blocked.
That was a sublime touch from Adebayor. How Defoe has missed I do not know.
What a chance! It should be game over inside 35 seconds of the half. A brilliant burst from Walker, he finds Adebayor and his glorious pass finds Defoe ten yards out with only the keeper to beat but he fires wide. Incredible.
We begin again...
A change for Spurs at half time as Van der Vaart comes on for Kranjcar.
HALF TIME Liverpool distinctly second best even before Adam was sent off and things in danger of disintegrating as Suarez starts to lose his rag. Kenny has a job on his hands to keep it together at HT. Still only one goal in it though.
Suarez sarcastically applauds the referee and gets a yellow card. He's still chuntering too.
Brilliant ball from Modric and Walker beats Enrique but waits an age to cross when he had four in the box! All he gets is a corner. Infuriating for those in the area.
Liverpool's Charlie Adam is shown a second yellow card against Tottenham
Some serious regrouping for Liverpool to do at the break.
Parker was caught by Suarez's arm - hard to tell whether it was intentional or not. Parker got hit the throat and went down.
Now Modric floats a ball in for Kaboul to nod wide of the post.
More panic in Liverpool's box as a corner falls to Defoe who volleys right across the face. Carragher shanks it behind.
Spurs wanted a red as Adebayor was running towards goal but there was enough cover about. It was still a poor, lunging tackle though - no ball taken.
Adebayor is too quick for Coates and the defender is booked. Cards all over the place.
Skrtel is mugged by Bale again and is booked for nudging him to the floor.
Luka Modric of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates scoring the opening goal
Stat attack: Charlie Adam has now been shown 13 PL cards (12Y, 1R) since the start of 2010-11, only Cheik Tioté has seen more (16Y). Bruising.
Now Lucas clips Defoe and Spurs have a free kick 25 yards out central.
Carroll might have to go - he's unfamiliar with that role, lacking in pace and Spurs will look to exploit that flank.
Carroll almost playing left wing now with Suarez up top alone.
A huge task for Liverpool now - one behind and down to ten men.
It wasn't malicious from Adam because he was looking at the ball but as he stuck his leg out his studs caught the knee. Nasty.
Adam walks! A late tackle on Parker and he's gone before the half hour is out.
Agger can't continue after that early knock - so it is a debut for Sebastian Coates.
Great tussle between Enrique and Adebayor. The defender winning round one but striker winning round two.
Good defending from Walker as Downing charges into the box. Stuck to his task well.
Adebayor is carded for a late tackle on Carroll. It was a heavy touch from Carroll that attracted him.
King adjudged to have fouled Suarez. Liverpool free kick 45 yards out.
Adebayor has a pop from 25 yards with his left and it isn't far over the bar.
A more settled pattern to the game after Spurs' electric start.
Kyle Walker is relieved because it was his mistake that led to that Liverpool chance.
Liverpool have the ball in the net but the flag is up - Suarez was offside as Carroll moved the ball forward. Good finish though - like Yakubu's yesterday.
Skrtel is getting hammered down the left wing as Bale gets in again - Defoe tries to poke home but Carragher is with him.
It should be 2-0 - Modric has another pop that Reina Saves at full stretch, then Adebayor dinks back in but Skrtel clears.
From the free kick Modric tries to feed Bale down the left but the ball just picks up pace off the turf and Reina lets it go.
Adam gets carded as he pulls down Modric.
A long spell of Liverpool possession ends with an unsuccessful punt downfield.
Coates is warming up as Agger trots back on. Looks like a hip injury perhaps.
Bad to worse for Liverpool - Agger is down.
No more than Spurs deserve - they've made a great start and what a way to go in front. An absolute piledriver from the little Croatian.
What a goal! That might get him back in the good books! The ball breaks just outside the area and he lashes it into the top corner and celebrates wildly.
GOAL Modric screamer!
Now Carroll gets into the area but Carroll is flagged offside.
Spurs are flying here - Adebayor feeds Bale who speeds into the area and crosses but Defoe can't finish under pressure from Agger.
Liverpool, in the all red strip, get the game underway at White Hart Lane - kicking from left to right.
Liverpool are rocking here - a dodgy back pass puts Reina in trouble before Bale's cross is cleared by Carragher.
Skrtel, a centreback, starts at rightback for Liverpool and he will be up against Gareth Bale. That should be an interesting battle. Expect "a reducer" from the Reds defender early on.
What a chance for Adebayor! Kranjcar sets him up from the right and he takes it first time but shins it wide from 16 yards. Good move.
Both managers have talked up the qualities of the opposition in their pre-match interviews so we are expecting a close battle.
Early break into the box for Liverpool but Assou-Ekotto clears calmly.
