Notts County have paid the price for not taking their first half chances and you can't do that against a team like City.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is that. Manchester City have beaten Notts County 5-0. Flattering to the home side, but their superiority in front of goal was crucial.
We are deep into injury time now...
Dzeko is one-on-one with Nelson but misses! He seemed to have too much time to think about where he was going to put it - and the keeper stood up well.
Great finish, but this is very very harsh on County. They haven't been five goals worse than City.
Micah Richards has turned a rout into a hiding. City's corner is only half cleared and the ball falls to Richards 12 yards out, who controls it and rifles in an expertly taken volley with his left foot.
GOAL Manchester City 5-0 Notts County
It's turning into a rout as Dzeko gets on the team-sheet after Barry picked out Tevez, who crossed for Dzeko, who heads in from close-range.
GOAL Manchester City 4-0 Notts County
Kolarov bends another free kick into the box and Vieira finds space at the far post but his header is wide this time. So close to a hat-trick of headers!
Jo on, Silva off
City are out of sight. Wonderful counter-attack as the ball is played up to Dzeko, who takes a touch with his right before releasing Carlos Tevez with a perfect left-footed throughball. Tevez races away from the chasing defender before rounding the keeper Nelson and tapping home.
GOAL! Manchester City 3-0 Notts County
City win another corner on the left and the crowd encourage Patrick Vieira forward to complete a hat-trick of headers - but Notts County burst that bubble with an effective clearance.
Roberto Mancini has decided to replace Yaya Toure rather than Patrick Vieira, who's playing with that bandage and, presumably, a thumping headache.
Barry on, Yaya Toure off
Gobern on, Hughes off
Superb play all round Gow tees himself up before smashing a volley with his left foot from 25 yards. Joe Hart pulls off a save that's every bit as impressive, tipping the venomous drive over his bar. Great stuff.
Now it's Patrick Vieira's turn to sustain a knock to the head. He's got the old bandage around the head and will play on for now, but Gareth Barry is warming up...
Vieira scores his second goal of the afternoon
It's been a plucky display by the visitors.
County clear the corner and race up the other end of the pitch, where Hawley gets another glimpse of goal. He cuts inside Richards but his low shot is saved easily by heart.
Intricate build up by City involving Silva, Kolarov and then Tevez, who lets fly from the edge of the box - but Nelson touches it around his post for a City corner.
A slight lull in the game at the moment. City are comfortable as County are unable to rediscover their cutting edge of the first half.
TV replays have shown Mario Balotelli ripping off his snood and dumping on the ground as he walked down the tunnel...
Vieira has scored two in a less-than-convincing display by the Premier League side.
So both sides making changes with half an hour to go. City forced into that one, with Balotelli's head injury. But Carlos Tevez isn't a bad player to be able to bring on...
Thompson on, Darby off
Tevez on, Balotelli off
Balotelli and Pearce clashed heads as that corner went in and the Italian looks dazed and confused. Even more so than usual. They're both receiving treatment - that was a nasty one.
It's a double for Patrick Vieira! Corner from Kolarov on the left finds the head of Vieira again, who scores a carbon copy of his first goal. Vieira has two, City have two - and that should wrap it up.
GOAL! Manchester City 2-0 Notts County
Gow pops up on the right this time but his cross to Hughes is overhit. Frustrating for Paul Ince, as his side have created enough to chances to be level, at least, here.
City still looking vulnerable without Kompany and De Jong.
Hawley plays the ball to Gow in plenty of space on the left but Gow's cross is disappointing and City clear.
City attack through who else but David Silva. He finds Yaya Toure, who plays in Dzeko on the left. The Bosnian whips in a excellent right footed cross towards Balotelli but it's inches too high for the Italian. Decent move though.
Hawley catches Micah Richards late and rightly goes into the book.
They do, but Joe Hart easily plucks the ball from the sky.
Balotelli is pole-axed (well, he reacts as though he is) before Yaya steams in to the near touchline and concedes a foul. Notts County have the chance to get the ball forward here...
Zabaleta looking long for Balotelli but he overhits his throughball.
We're are up and running again at Eastlands...
The Notts County players are already back on the pitch doing what looks like team-building exercises! City are strolling out and we are about to get the second half underway.
Patrick Vieira gets on the end of David Silva' corner to give City a lead they scarcely deserve.
But it's goals that matter and, in that respect, Notts County have it all to do in the second half.
City have been a long way from their best (perhaps because Tevez isn't playing...) but somehow go in with a 1-0 lead at half time. Somewhat harsh on Notts County, who have been far more adventurous going forward and were unlucky not to take the lead when Hawley's shot crashed against the inside of the post.
And that's half time.
Much like he did earlier when he hits the post, Hawley cuts in from the right but this time sends a good effort just over.
The Italian cynically tripped Alan Gow to become the first player to have his name taken in the match
Balotelli picks up a yellow card for a foul.
Balotelli releases Dzeko down the left, but his cross towards Silva is cut out.
All of a sudden this game has the feel of a whitewash about it. City just needed that one goal and are looking like they could add to their lead before half time. Notts County under the cosh here.
City have the lead and it comes in disappointing fashion from a Notts County point of view. Silva whips in a corner from the right, and Vieira rises highest to head in at the near post. 1-0 City.
GOAL! Manchester City 1-0 Notts County
Silva cuts in menacingly from the right before unleashing a curler that goes just high of the frame.
Paul Ince and Roberto Mancini share a joke before the game.
City win a free kick 25 yards out and Kolarov goes for goal with his left peg, but it's too close to Nelson.
Balotelli thinks he should have a penalty after appearing to be bundled over in the box. It was a clumsy tackle but contact was minimal. Balotelli is crying to the ref, who's having none of it.
At the other end, Hawley battles to keep the ball with three City men around him. City need to pull their socks up; they have a scrap on their hands here, whether they like it or not.
Notts County keeper Nelson is called into action again as Kolarov's fast delivery from the right just evades Balotelli and Richards in the box. Notts County playing the offside trap to good effect too.
Good move by City orchestrated by Silva. He finds Zabaleta on the left who cuts inside and finds Kolarov, who tests the keeper from 20 yards. Silva tries to pick up the pieces but his cross is cleared.
That was the reaction City were looking for - but they remain second best in this game so far.
Richards crosses from the right for the unmarked Dzeko, whose header is tipped over the bar! Great stuff here - two chances in a minute.
Hawley hits the post for Notts County! Hughes plays the ball to Hawley on the left. He opens his body before curling an effort against the inside of the far post with Joe Hart beaten! Fantastic effort by Hawley. So unlucky!
Good news for City, who were caught cold there.
Free kick taken quickly by Hawley. He finds Gow, who turns and shoots into the arms of Hart before seeing the flag up for offside.
Gow is flattened by Kolo Toure and Notts County have a free kick halfway inside City's half.
Excellent play by Gow, who turns away from Yaya Toure and Vieira, before bursting into the City half. Gow has Hughes in support but he strays offside and Gow loses the ball. Shame for County, as that was a promising attack.
Silva plays Zabaleta into space on the left and the defender goes for the spectacular with a volley from the left wing. It goes just over the bar but I'm not sure what he was thinking there.
Very good start by the visitors, City yet to get going.
City just about hack the ball clear but they look far from comfortable at the moment.
Gow strikes it with his left foot forcing Joe Hart into a save low to his left. Corner.
Hefty challenge by Kolo Toure in the back of Hughes and Notts County have a free kick just outside the penalty area, just right of centre...
Dzeko plays a good ball to Kolarov but the full-back had just strayed offside.
City controlling possession but Notts County appear more than willing to attack the Premier League side whenever they get the ball.
Notts County burst forward again and this time Lee Hughes gets a sight at goal. From 20 yards he slips as he strikes it and the danger passes.
Hart looks to be impeded as he tries to claim the corner but nothing is given. City clear but this has been an excellent start by the League One team.
Joe Hart came out with conviction but failed to punch the ball clear and Notts County have a corner. Early pressure on the City goal here.
Notts County on the front foot early on, winning a free kick on the left...
We are underway at Eastlands...
The players are marching onto the pitch to a rousing reception on a misty day in north west England. We are moments from kick off...
Notts County boss Paul Ince makes just one change from last month's 1-1 draw with City, with Karl Hawley replacing Dave Martin.
So, as you may have noticed, no Carlos Tevez for City today - he is on the bench. Instead Roberto Mancini has gone for Silva, Balotelli and Dzeko. Not bad.
