Wes Brown's deep cross finds Nani but his volley is gathered well by Bialkowski.
Change for Saints, Ryan Dickson comes on in place of Barnard.
Do Prado has the makings of a good footballer but his decision making needs work.
A well worked corner routine as Chamberlain comes short, flicks back to Harding who crosses low and flashes right across the face of goal and just past the post. So close.
Do Prado feeds Chaplow and his cross misses everyone. Then Chamberlain wins a corner.
Nani cuts inside and flicks to Scholes who tries a curler but Butterfield blocks.
Saints had dropped deeper and deeper in the last ten minutes and paid the price. United favourites now, surely.
Obertan flashes in a cross that deflects off a Saints' defender, into the turf and up onto the forehead of Owen who finds the corner.

Ragged from United as O'Shea and Giggs contrive to give Southampton a throw when there was no need to.
On come Giggs and Nani and off go Gibson and Anderson. All United subs made and no Rooney or Berbatov. Interesting.
An aimless ball from Owen and now the changes come.

United just can't keep hold of the ball here. Changes needed.
Great run from Harding, beating two players and trying to switch it onto his right foot. His eventual shot was more like a back pass.
A good clearing header from O'Shea prevents a cross reaching Lambert, then Chaplow misses his kick when crossing and wants a penalty. Not happening.
Chaplow was so nearly in again after Do Prado's pass but he couldn't collect the ball. It was slightly behind him in fairness.
An early opening in the box but Owen can't force his cross into the danger area. Corner, that Seabourne does well to clear.
A change for United as we restart as Brown replaces Fabio.

What a beauty! The ball broke inside the area off Evans and he smashed it into the roof of the net past Lindegaard. What a finish!
GOAL Chaplow with a stunner!
The best chance of thr half by a mile but Do Prado has fluffed it. Butterfield crosses from the right and Do Prado has a free header seven yards out but puts it over. Oh dear.

A late challenge from Gibson and he is lucky to get away without a yellow card.

Lively cup tie this. Loads of Andy Gray and Richard Keys banter flying around the Soccernet office.
Lambert strikes the free kick powerfully, and it was bending viciously, but noe enough to trouble the far post. Two yards wide.
Evans is penalised for a foul and Southampton have a good chance to get an effort on goal from 25 yards out.
Owen has hit the post! He was out wide right, and clipped it into the box, it looped over the keeper and bounced out to safety.
Shot on goal from Lambert but he can't get much power on it as he swivelled on a ball that was heading away from goal.
O'Shea makes a important tackle on Chamberlain.
Owen is playing just off Hernandez, in a similar position to the one he occupied at Newcastle under Kevin Keegan.
