Spector came back to haunt his old club with two goals and Cole also bagged a brace. But the man of the match was Victor Obinna.
Manchester United, winners of the last two Carling Cups, have been demolished 4-0 at Upton Park and West Ham go into the semi-finals for the first time in 21 years.
That's it! The final whistle blows and West Ham have claimed a famous scalp.
Green punches out and then Boa Morte completes the clearance.
Rafael, who is seeing a lot of the ball late on, wins a corner.

Rafael is penalised for a fair tackle on Obinna. The latter will take the freekick from near the corner flag...
Giggs takes the corner and it is easy for West Ham to clear. He must be great at corners in training because he is useless on matchday.

Boa Morte smashes the ball against Fletcher in open play... a little bit of anger is still there from that earlier tussle I think.
Giggs chips in a cross. Hernandez gets his head to the ball but his effort goes wide of goal.

Giggs and O'Shea combine down the right but the defenders cut back is cleared and another United attack ends.

Giggs and Hernandez have a misunderstanding and the ball goes out for a goalkick - typical of their link-up all night.
Rafael fouls Cole and West Ham have a freekick. Obinna fancies a shot from 30-yards out wide but his effort goes over the bar.
Green makes a good save from Chris Smalling but the flag is up for offside.
West Ham make another change. Zavon Hines comes on for Barrera.
United probe but can't find a way through.
West Ham make a change. Tomkins is replaced by Winston Reid.
Obertan lays the ball off to Hernandez, who takes a quick look at goal and shoots just over the bar from 30-yards out.

Giggs chases down Tomkins and slides in to win the ball. He chips a cross into the box but there is nobody there to meet it.
Rafael lofts the ball over the defence for Giggs, who fails to control it when clean through.

United have a freekick 22-yards out....
United are still pouring forward but West Ham have the scent of victory and are closing down with new-found reserves of energy.
That has surely got to bit it now. The holders are 4-0 down with just over 20 minutes to go.
GOAL Cole gets the ball in the box shrugs off Evans and smashes ball past Kuszczak.
West Ham go on the attack with Obinna, who ties Rafael in knots...
Upson takes out Hernandez with a tough tackle but the ref waves play on.
United make a change. Fabio goes off and is replaced by his twin brother Rafael.
With the snow continuing to fall the referee switches to a yellow ball.
Anderson fires the ball into Macheda on the edge of the box, the striker's touch is bit heavy and the ball runs through to Green.
Flecther tries to slide a pass into the box but there are too many Hammers to squeeze it through.
The corner goes deep, Macheda hooks it back into play but Obertan is closed down as he shoots at goal.

Fabio makes a great tackle on Boa Morte and then Obertan gives the ball away cheaply.
Faubert gets over excited and hits the ball straight out for a goalkick.
Obinna casuing all sorts of problems again. A great cross from the left is glanced into the far corner by Cole. A mountain to climb for United.
GOAL Cole heads in from a cross from Obinna.
Macheda gives the ball away to Obinna. West Ham are happy to keep possession for short spell.
Anderson tracks the run of Obinna and manages to stick with the pacey forward.

Cole sticks out his hand to control the ball and gives away a freekick. He should really have been booked for that.
Green kicks the ball stright into the back of Macheda but then recovers to tackle Hernandez on the edge of the box.
United are building up the pressure on West Ham.
Obetan berings the ball out and passes to Fabio. the defender crosses from the right but the ball is held up in the wind and West Ham clear.
Evans takes a poor touch and then lunges into a tackle to win back the ball. It was a poor tackle but he gets away with it.
Anderson runs forward with the ball. He skips past two players and then runs out of ideas and ploughs straight into Upson.
Boa Morte wins an early tussle with Fabio.
United have made a change at the break. Bebe has been taken off and on comes Macheda.
West Ham get the second-half under way, kicking from left to right.
Spector celebrates his second goal.
West Ham have struggled to win all season and will need to avoid panicking as the inevitable United onslaught arrives.
The United players will surely be getting the hair-dryer treatment in the dressingroom and will be happy to get back out into the snow to cool down.
Two goals from Spector against his former club have given West Ham a deserved 2-0 lead against the Carling Cup holders.
The ref blows up for half-time.
Upson takes out Chicarito. United don't get a freekick but the ref stops play because Upson has injured himself.
Bebe picks the ball up, eventually juggles it under control and then slices a shot into the side-netting.
Anderson tries to spark an attack but runs into a wall of West Ham defenders.
Fabio was injured making the cross and had to go off for some treatment. Fergie is not happy and is letting the fifth official know.
Fabio clips the ball to the back post. Green back-peddles and just manages to claw the ball out from under the bar.

United have the chance to whip a freekick into the box...
Obinna picks up the ball on the edge of the box, he fires in a low shot but Van Der Sar makes a good save.
O'Shea takes about five minutes to line himself up for a cross, giving Faubert all the time in the world to block it.
Carling Cup holders United need to get it together, and quickly.
Fletcher drifts a cross to the back post. Bebe manages to get his head to the ball but Green makes an easy save.
Fabio makes a great tackle to block the first shot but loses his footing as he attempts to clear and Spector pounced.
GOAL Spector pounces on a loose ball in the box and smashes it home.
Obinna swings the freekick into the box. It's a poor delivery though.
Fabio hauls down the dangerman Obinna and gives away a freekick in a dangerous area.
Fabio started the game at leftback but now seems to have swapped with O'Shea and is playing at rightback.
Fabio throws himself in front of Cole to block a shot from the striker. Great defending.
...Giggs puts his header right into the arms of Green and then holds his head in his hands.
Giggs plays the ball out wide to Hernandez, who crosses to the back post where Giggs is now unmarked...
It's all a bit scrappy at Upton Park at the moment.
Hernandez (yes he is on the pitch) thinks he was won a throw but it goes in West Ham's favour.
Smalling fairly takes out Spector to win a header but the ref stops play as the player needs treatment.
Giggs plays in Bebe on the right. Bebe delivers a good ball across the face of the box but Upson clear the danger for West Ham.
Cole gives away a freekick and United have a chance to breath.
The home crowd are well up for this now. A great cheer greets every West Ham passage of play.
Bebe picks up the ball in midfield and shoots wildly from 5000 yards. He misses, obviously.
...Upson heads clear and Obinna flicks it on.

Spector was the man who was offside for the first 'goal', but this one does stand.
GOAL Obinna clips the ball in the box and Spector heads home against his former club.
Ben-Haim brings the ball out of defence and Cole has it in the box...
The freekick comes to nothing.
Back to the game, and West Ham have a freekick in the centre circle.
Avram Grant is complaining as he thought it hit Smalling, as we all did, but the official was right to rule it out.
It was the right decision by the linesman. What a great spot. No Goal!
Nobody is sure why at first. The replay shows the deflection came off a West Ham player, who was offside.

Anderson drives forward from midfield and feeds Giggs down the left. Giggs' cross is too near Green, who comes out to pluck the ball out of the air.

West Ham are not giving United any time on the ball and Smalling resorts to hoofing the ball forward.
Ben-Haim heads a chipped Giggs pass back to his goalkeeper.
Obinna with some good work down the left. The Hammers work the ball back to the edge of the box and Kovac fires high and wide.
O'Shea hits an aimless pass forward and West Ham counter-attack.
Anderson rides a tackle as United keep the ball.
Obertan hustles Faubert off the ball and fires a cross into the box, but it is a poor one and goes nowhere near the two waiting strikers.
United are happy to keep possession in midfield.

Obertan strikes a hard low shot from the penalty spot that Green somehow manages to palm onto the post.
Bebe wins the ball back for United. Anderson fires a return pass to him in the box but he can't control the heavy pass.
Chris smalling boots the ball out for a throw. The Hammers go backwards from deep inside the United half.
Giggs scoops the ball away from Ben-Haim with a trademark sliding tackle.
Obinna plays the ball through th defence but Evans mops up at the back for United, who are strugling to get into this game early on.
Obertan clears at the near post but United can't get out of their half at the moment.
Faubert pushes forward and wins another corner.

The teams are out on the pitch and are greeted by a few whisps of snow. It's a cold night in east London.
West Ham look like they will start with Ben-Haim at left-back, so he will be up against Bebe, who needs a good game amid rumours his team-mates haven't been too impressed.
Bebe plays for United, as Fabio, Chris Smalling and Gabriel Obertan also get a chance to shine. Hernandez will be one to watch up front.
Bit of early team news: Upson plays for the Hammers. But Scott Parker is out. Carlton Cole is back in the side and playing up front.
