FULL TIME Lennon nearly had another! Johnson slipped on the ball and Lennon nipped in, beat Skrtel but fired wide, all with Modric square begging for the ball. And that is that! A late win for Spurs in a good game.
Assou-Ekotto jumps into Torres and Liverpool have a last chance.
Defoe trots off as Spurs wind down the clock and Sandro comes on in his place.
That is extremely harsh for Liverpool but they are made to pay for a catalogue of misses. What a burst from Lennon though, leaving Konchesky trialing and slotting his first Premier League goal in a year.
GOAL Lennon has won it for Spurs after bursting on to Crouch's flick! Heartbreak for Liverpool!
Five added minutes...
Two big chances for Liverpool as they break and catch Spurs cold. Johnson's cross is about to be met by Torres before Gomes cleans him out. Then Maxi fires over as he picks up the loose ball.
Spurs have the ball in the net but Defoe is offside. As lennon nodded into Defoe's path he is just a yard offside.
That's five yellows for Liverpool today
Johnson is carded for a meaty tackle on Bale. He got a slice of the ball but did follow through hard.
A right old scramble in Tottenham's box as Aurelio challenges Gallas but Gomes comes out sharply.
It looks like a break or a fracture for Carragher. That doesn't stop him shouting at Krygiakos who isn't ready to come on. And it has started snowing.
Tottenham's corner falls to Modric on the edge of the box and his volley loops two yards wide of the post. Now Carragher is down after a blow on the wrist.
At the other end Defoe charges in on goal and gets a corner.
Neat passing hands Meireles possession and that is an absolute fizzer of an effort. It flies two inches past the upright. What a punt.
A very poor cross from Johnson, right at Gomes.
Kuyt's awful pass for Torres ends up with Assou-Ekotto, the striker, and the linesman in a heap on the floor.
A carbon copy of the earlier Bale chance as Reina again flaps at a cross and the Welshman's effort is blocked.
Meireles tries an ambitious pass over the top from the edge of the area but overhits it. He's had a good game though. Nice passer of the ball.
Gallas is hauled back and Spurs have a free kick on the right.
A lull in the game now as both sides start to feel the pace.
Perhaps I was a bit harsh on Hodgson - looks like Kuyt has gone up top with Torres.
Defoe works space for himself but can't get any power into his shot.
Ngog hobbles off for treatment and it looks like his race is run. Aurelio replaces him and that might signal that Roy Hodgson is happy for a point.
A slight period of calm after a hectic ten minutes or so. Its a good game is this one.
That was an awkward one. Assou-Ekotto won the ball but kicked it into Kuyt which diverted it forward. It looked like a pen at full speed but not so much on replay.
the free kick breaks down the right and Kuyt looks like he's gone past Assou-Ekotto before being brought down. they can't believe they haven't got a pen.
Bassong cleans Torres up and Liverpool have a free kick.
The game is end to end at the moment. A frantic pace.
Liverpool should be two or three clear so how they respond to being pegged back will be interesting.
It was a lovely turn of pace from Modric and a devillish cross. Skrtel had to try and deal with it as Crouch was behind him. He's now scored at both ends.
GOAL Spurs finally have their equaliser as Modric bursts down the left and crosses. All Skrtel can do is divert the cross into his own net.
It is Liverpool's turn to scream for a pen as Bassong barges into Kuyt but wins the ball. The visitors settle for a corner.
Relief too for Ngog, who basically put his hands up to avoid taking a free kick in the face. Very little courage shown by the striker.
Defoe's penalty record is iffy at best and you can see why. A terrible effort and Liverpool can breathe again. They were still fuming at the free kick award that led to the penalty award in the first place.
DEFOE MISSES Perhaps justice is done - not because it wasn't a penalty, but because it was just outside the box. An awful spot kick from Defoe.
What is Ngog doing? He jumps to block Bale's effort with his hands but it was right on the edge of the box. Skrtel is booked for protesting.
Deofe wins a free kick after a little hand off from Carragher. Another soft award.
Spurs howl for a penalty as Crouch gets a little bump from Konchesky and though it was soft, the defender wasn't really looking at the ball.
Another Liverpool corner as Ngog pressures Bassong.
Liverpool break out and Johnson wins a throw deep in Spurs territory.
Assou-Ekotto smashes a shot on goal and a deflection offers Spurs another corner.
Off the line! What a superb block from Meireles as Bale volleyed a shot on goal after Reina had parried a cross to him. Like Ashley Cole's for Chelsea in the earlier game with Newcastle.
So nearly a chance for Defoe as Crouch nods back in and his strike partner can't apply the finish.
A poor Lennon cross yields a corner as Skrtel nods behind.
Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Liverpool's Fernando Torres have been nominated for the ESPN PFA Fans Award for November. Click here for more information on how you can vote for your favourite.
Torres gets another opening in which he looks a little slovenly. He was through but took too long to shoot and Bassong closed him down again. Liverpool should be home and dry by now.
We begin again...
HALF TIME Liverpool lead but should have extended their advantage before the break. Join us in 15 minutes.
What a miss! Maxi is slotted in on goal beautifully by Torres but with only Gomes to beat he tries to go round him and just presents the ball to Gomes. Now Torres is clear but Bassong slides in just as the striker is about to shoot.
Two minutes added, largely due to Spurs substitutions.
If Tottenham score in this game it'll be the first time in Premier League history that all 20 teams have scored in a weekend.
Excellent reaction from Skretel as his header hit Ngog and fell loose. A poke of the right boot was enough to take it past Gomes.
GOAL Skrtel pokes home after a free kick broke loose in the box and Liverpool lead!
Bale has a go on goal from the free kick but Reina watches it wide.
Another yellow and this time it is Carragher for hauling down Modric as he broke with Lennon in support.
Meireles fires in a powerful drive and Gomes squirms a save just past the post. It was dipping and perhaps the keeper has done well there.
Palacios does well to win the ball and release Lennon but as he feeds Hutton the cross is right at Reina.
Kaboul signalled as soon as he got hit by a Torres shot on the knee that he was spent. Bassong comes on in his place. Only one sub left for Spurs now.
Now Kaboul is down for Spurs and needs treatment..
Lennon is troubling Konchesky whenever he gets the ball here. Crouch wins a knock down but no white shirt is close enough to profit.
Liverpool hit back as they work the ball wide to Kuyt and his cross is met by Ngog who flashes his header wide.
A superb block from Carragher saves a certain goal for Defoe! Lennon's cross broke to him, six yards out but Carra gets in the way.
Bale's effort hits the wall and Spurs regroup.
Bale now over the free kick.
Now Bale forces Konchesky into a tackle as he neared the area and that is a definite card.
Never a penalty. It was a good run but Hutton was already going down as Meireles got close to him. A poor dive.
Spurs shout for a pen as Alan Hutton goes down but it didn't look convincing. Replay should show us...
First card of the game and Meireles is a tad unlucky. He made contact with the ball as Bale fell, but Martin Atkinson didn't see it.
Skrtel challenges at the near post and Crouch clears the loose ball.
Good spell of Liverpool pressure and Kuyt wins another corner.
Lucas is the latest to have a pop and he wins a corner off Kaboul.
Tottenham win a free kick 35 yards out and Kaboul blasts an ambitious effort well over.
Good move from Liverpool as Ngog, Torres and Maxi combine and the latter's effort is strong and forces Gomes into a good low save.
Bale eventually won a corner and Crouch meets it on the but Carragher was all over him and his effort dribbles wide off his shin.
Now Johnson sticks to his task to deny Bale a crossing opportunity.
Assou-Ekotto hands the ball to Liverpool but at least does well to recover the situation by nicking the ball from Kuyt.
Defoe's first effort is a good one, on the turn as Bale's cross came in. Reina was right behind it though.
An awful ball from Kuyt when Liverpool had numbers in attack. He was looking Ngog but got it all wrong. Decent opening.
Van der Vaart's replacement is Jermain Defoe.
Lennon is crowded out on the edge of the box as Van der Vaart trudges round the pitch and back to the bench.
Looks like a hamstring pull, his gloves are off and he'll have to be replaced.
Van der Vaart gets into the area but is running away from goal and can only back flick a ball into Reina's arms. Looks like he may have injured himself too.
Torres looks hungry in the opening stages and nearly tees up Kuyt but as the ball breaks Maxi toe pokes an effort towards goal and it flashes past the post.
Liverpool keep giving the ball away in the early stages but they nearly got in as Torres flicks in for Maxi but he is flagged offside.
More great play from Lennon as he eases past Konchesky and clips the ball back for Modric but his shot is right at Reina.
A brilliant run by Lennon who charges from deep and gets into the box but loses control with Crouch and Van der Vaart in space near him.
Gallas rather fires a backpass at Gomes as Kuyt tried to chase down a long ball. Keeper did well.
Ngog gets an early cross into the box but Kaboul clears.
How much will Tottenham's midweek Champions League exploits have sapped their energy? Liverpool had no such outing, but are still missing Steven Gerrard. Their recent form has been patchy at best.
