That's all we've got time for folks, but join us on Wednesday for some more live Champions League action on ESPNsoccernet.
Milan were the dominant team really but United were devastating on the break. Two Rooney headers plus Scholes' lucky first-half equaliser put United in a great position with three away goals to take to Old Trafford in three weeks. Milan took the lead through Ronaldinho and Seedorf got their second to make a tasty final few moments. Milan only have themselves to blame for this one as United extend their record to 16 away games unbeaten in Europe.
AC MILAN 2-3 MAN UTD. Well, well what a sensational game of football. Carrick's sending off was for kicking the ball away just to clear that up. It was truly the Wayne Rooney show!
It's all over...
Valencia breaks at speed after the resulting free-kick and it's out for a United corner.
I don't understand what's happened there. I'm sure it was Evra who made the tackle!
Evra fouls Pato and Carrick's off!
Brown's introduction, I suspect, will be to try and shore up the defence in the last few minutes.
Ronaldinho booked for dissent.
UNITED SUB: Brown on for Rafael.
Here comes Seedorf, who releasses Pato. The striker takes it past Evra but after some drops of the shoulder Rooney chases back - yes Rooney - to smash it clear. Backs to the wall.
Two chances in quick succession for Milan. Free header from Thiago Silva from a corner but he put it wide. Just before Ambrosini hit Ronaldinho's knock down but it was deflected out.
Foul by Carrcik unecessarily in no-mans land near the centre-cricle.
The ref gives Evra a stern warning about time wasting.
This has been an absolute classic and I just don't know which way it will turn next. Milan looked dead and buried but now they're chasing everything.
Thiago Silva tries a speculative effort from 35 yards. Nowhere near as his team-mates look on in despair.
United sitting back and inviting Milan to come onto them now.
The game has sprung into life again. Ronaldinho played it into Inzaghi on the edge of the area but rather than place it he tried to blast it.
What a great chance for Inzaghi!
Milan 2-3 United. WOW! What an incredible goal. Ronaldinho came down the left and with some fantastic footwork put a left foot cross in. Seedorf pur one leg behind the other and it was an audacious finish.
Rooney takes it on from 30 yards and Dida lets it go. I'm pleased he was convinced enough about it because it looked to me like that was pretty close as it drifted just wide.
Free-kick for United now after Ronaldinho fouls Scholes.
Evra comes in from the left and tees up Valencia who plays a one-two with Scholes. The Ecuadorian smashes a low corss in and had Rooney gambled he may have just grabbed his third. As it is, it went out for a throw-in.
The game has started to slow right down now and it's looking scrappy out there.
Bonera gets to the by-line and pulls back the cross towards ronaldinho. He tries what would have been the greates goal I've ever seen if he pulled it off, but his over-head kick attempt results in an air shot.
I still can't quite believe what's happened! The game just had an amazing five minute spell where Milan seemed to give up.
United still probing at the Milan defence but now Seedorf brings the Rossoneri forward.
Disappointing evening for Huntelaar. he had a great chance int he first half and had he scored, things could have been very different.
MILAN SUB: Inzaghi on for Huntelaar.
Rooney tries a speculative effort looking for his hat-trick but it soars over.
Wow. Counter attacking football by United has been devastating and the United fans can now be heard loudest of all in the San Siro.
Milan 1-3 United. Unbelievable stuff. United are remarkably two to the good. Fletcher in acres of space down the left. He's given so much time to put his cross in and found Rooney who escaped a bemused Milan defence, searching in vein for an offside call.
United have plenty of space ont he counter and Milan are looking tired.
Great chance for United, Rafael came forward and after a good interchange between Fletcher and Rooney, the England striker fires a right foot shot just wide of the post.
So the former Netherlands international is introduced and Milan will need his composure in this difficult situation.
AC MILAN SUB: Seedorf on for Beckham.
Milan may have had the better chances but United are looking increasingly dangerous as the Rossoneri push for an equaliser. Valencia's cross collected by Dida that time.
Milan must be absolutely shell-shocked. They've bossed this one although United have certainly been better since the interval.
Milan preparing a sub and I reckon Beckham is going to make way for Seedorf.
Valencia to take the corner. He fires it in but Ambrosini fires it away.
United looking for more now and Rooney accelerates again, he's won a corner out of nothing.
Great ball by Beckham and Ferdinand, sandwiched between two red-and-black shirts, heads it away.
But Milan now have a free-kick.
Milan 1-2 United. Valencia's first piece of action is to provide a great cross for Rooney to climb higher than Bonera and head back across goal past Dida. Fantastic finish.
Seedorf is warming up for Milan. He scored the last time these two sides met at the San Siro.
Beckham fouls Fletcher and United have a free-kick.
So Ferguson changes things up and I'm sure the instruction will be for Valencia to run at Favalli whenever possible.
UNITED SUB: Valencia on for Nani.
Rapid break from United and Rooney brings it inside the area. He shoots low but Dida collects and importantly, holds onto it, with Fletcher and Park rushing in.
Booking for Carrick after he brings down the Brazilian in full stride. Another excellent piece of skill created the chance.
It's all go as Milan look to get back in the game. Rtonaldinho starting to take control and influence proceedings.
Beckham's cross comes ina and the ball breaks to Ronaldinho again -an insanely good piece of skill inside the area lifts the ball towards Rafael's hand. Ref says no penalty.
Great effort by Ronaldinho, van der Sar tips it away after some excellent control by Pato to set him up,
Unioted back on the attack now and they have been significantly better in the second period. Speculative effort from Rooney, though he is certainly capable. He controlled it on his chest and then struck it on the voilley but it's miscued.
Nani takes it quickly to Scholes and he puts a cross in but it's headed away. The winger was getting plenty of boos down in amongst the Milan fans.
Rooney accelerates through the middle for United and he's won a corner as his shot was deflected out.
Little stat for you - Scholes' goal was the 295th Milan have conceded in UEFA club competition.
Ronaldinho dispossesed as three United players close him out.
Free-kick to United, Favalli adjudged to have fouled Nani down the right wing.
Patient build-up from United...until Evra prematurely tries to quit a cross in. It's easily collected by Dida.
Ronaldinho complaining about not being given a free-kick but United have it with Fletcher.
Rooney on the counter-attack for United, he spreads it to Fletcher but it's a poor touch with Nani free down his right. It was four on three for united there.
Beckham takes the corner but it's cleared.
But Van der Sar gets a strong hand to it.
Pirlo strikes it from 35 yards and it's a stunning effort!
Free-kick for Milan again, as Evans brings down Huntelaar.
Free-kick in an advanced position for Milan down the right. Taken by Beckham but free-kick for United now as the ref spots some pushing in the box.
Lovely touch from Pato to take it past Evra but his attempted through ball to Huntelaar is misplaced.
Ferdinand looks long for Park but it's overhit and the South korean can't make it.
The ball comes in from Favalli and Pato has a free header! But he's put it over. yet another let-off for United.
But Pato has intercepted it and strides forward.
United looking on the front foot at the moment, they've come out in confident mood for this second half.
Heard Fergie make some comments at half-time. "Glad we're back in it, a little bit of a fortuitous goal. But now we're going to go for it."
United coming forward early on with Carrick and Rooney. Nani with some great trickery down the right and he's finally lofted a decent ball in. Fletcher rises highest but he's headed wide.
Paul Scholes'goal was his 24th in the Champions League.
We're back for the second period and here's hoping we continue to have a footballing feast. United certainly need to cut out the slopp mistakes while Milan will just be hoping for more of the same.
And we're off for the second half...
AC MILAN 1-1 MAN UTD. What a great half. Milan oozed class and were by far the better side. They took a deserved early lead through Ronaldinho's deflected effort off Carrick and could have doubled their lead on a couple of occasions - notably when Huntelaar fired wide. But a fortuitous Scholes goal means United are still in it, and have a crucial away goal.
There's the half-time whistle.
Milan finishing the half right near the United goal. Thiago Silva picks it up on the edge of the area and curls a cross in to the danger area. Well, it would have been dangerous if anyone was there!
Good battling by Fletcher in midfield, United looking a little bit more confident but still their passing is a little lacklustre at times.
Rooney brings United forward, Fletcher plays a great crossfield pass to Nani but again the winger's cross fails to really get past the first man.
Rooney has been booked, I think it's for dissent.
It's up over the bar from Beckham, not an ideal effort. It never threatened Van der Sar.
Right we're in Beckham range. 20 yards out, Park-s foul. Up steps Becks.
Ronaldinho strides through towards the edge of the area and strikes it from 20 yards. He's forced a save out of Van der Sar and it could have gone anywhere but there are no Milan players to pounce on the rebound.
Free-kick to Milan as Ronaldinho fouled by Park in midfield.
Carrick strikes one from distance. It's about 25/30 yards out and it's a low daisy cutter. But the shot fizzes past Dida's right-hand post.
Since the goal it's got a little scrappier in midfield. Milan shocked as they have been by far the better team. They come forward again with Pato down the left but Fletcher clears it.
So, United have an away goal, something they failed to get on their two previous visits to take on AC Milan.
MILAN SUB: Favalli on for Antonini.
Milan 1-1 United. Fletcher's cross met luckily by Scholes, deflected off his standing leg and in off the post. Highly fortunate but United will take it.
What a chance that was. United go forward now and the cross coems in towards nani this time. He's on the floor and gesticulating wildly but the ref was never going to give a penalty - even if there may have been a little shirt tug by Antonini.
United give the ball away again! This time Huntelaar has powered through the middle ahead of Ferdinand and he strikes his shot inches wide! A big let-off for United.
This time it's Beckham's turn and Pato meets the header but it's safely away again.
Ronaldinho delivers but it's headed away by Ferdinand for another corner.
Evans lost his bearings there and it was a poor header away. Huntelaar catches one on the volley but it's deflected off Evra and out for a corner.
Ambrosini fouled by Ferdinand and Milan have a free-kick justinside the United half.
Free-kick to Milan given away by Nani in a quite pointless area. Frustration boiling over for the winger, who of course got sent-off last week against Aston Villa.
Nani accelerates down the right but it's another poor ball from the right wing. Rooney looks enraged as the ball goes out for a throw-in on the far side.
He plays it to Pato at pace but he's tackeld well by Evans.
Unite dgive it away sloppily and Milan advance at pace with Ronaldinho - this looks ominous.
Nani wins a free-kick for United with some excellent quick footwork inside the centre-circle. Ambrosini with the foul.
Milan have regained control now, they're making it look like a trianing passing exercise. Exquisite passing from the Italian side.
Huntelaar advances down the right and puts a cross in that's met by Scholes. A poor first touch but he hoofs it away left-footed with his second.
Park overpowered by Bonera and the right-back does very well to shepherd the ball out for a goal-kick.
Bonera just took a clattering to his head by Rooney's boot - it was accidental though.
United enjoying a good sustained period of possession with Scholes and Rooney starting to look a little more lviely.
Looking back at that Ferdinand incident and he's a lucky boy. Ronaldinho's step-overs and drop of the shoulder sold him completely and he was the last man. Could have been a red card!
Good strength by Rooney to build a United attack. he lays it off to Scholes who moves into the space and feeds the ball back to the england striker. It's just overhit though and Rooney can't get a shot away inside the area.
Sir Alex looking understandably a little unhappy in the United dugout.
It's punched away by Van der Sar in amongst a plethora of bodies.
Foul by Ferdinand on Ronaldinho, this time it's given and Beckham delivers the free-kick.
Rooney has a touch finally. He's blasted a fierce shot wide of Dida's right-hand post.
The ref hasn't given it, although it was outside the area. Should defintiely have been a free-kick.
Ferdinand's brought down Ronaldinho in the area!
Space on the edge of the area for Fletcher but he can't get a convincing shot away.
Scholes looks for a foul but he's not got it and Ambrosini has a chance to cross left-footed. Ferdinand clears.
Rafael brings down Ronaldinho but he took the ball according to the ref. probably a fair decision.
Nani again creating some space for himself but it's another poor ball, left-footed and out for a goal kick.
Not sure if Rooney's even had a touch yet.
Nani in acres of sapce down the right and he has all the time in the world to pick out a cross. So where does he put it - straight into Dida's hands!
Scholes attempts a raking 60 yard ball but it's too long for Nani. Goal-kick.
Nani's ball in and Dida's made a right hash of it. Fortunately for Milan there is no one on hand to punish his mistake. Very dodgy goalkeeping.
Nani finds some space down the right and his cross is headed out for a corner.
United are all over the place here and need to try and regain some composure.
Thiago Silva skipped through unmarked from defence and played in the onrushing Antonini who cut inside but dragged his shot wide of the left post with the goal gaping.
Great chance for Milan.
Frenetic start at the San Siro and now Milan have it in an advanced position down their right wing.
Nani swings in the corner but it's easily cleared. Now the Portuguese winger is dwon after being caught by the flailing arm of Ronaldinho.
Evra with some excelletn work down the left and Antonini has cleared his cross out for a United corner.
Nani draws the foul from Ambrosini.
Long range effort from Scholes after it was well worked through midfield by United, but it's miles wide.
Huntelaar has it on the edge of the box and he's spread it left to an unmarked Ronaldinho inside the box. Rafael comes to the ball but he dinks inside and fires a low shot. Well held by Van der Sar.
Now United finally have some possession as Evans looks long for Nani. But nothing comes of it and Nani gives away a free-kick.
Ronaldinho having lots of touches early on and United look stunned. They can't get near the ball.
Milan staying on the front foot, Rafael dispossessed and it's an interesting contest for him against Ronaldinho.
It was a poor half clearance from Evra really.
Beckham swung in the free-kick but the ball was only partially cleared to the Brazilian just inside the area. Ronaldinho swung a right boot at it and it deflected off Carrick and past Van der Sar.
Pato draws a foul from Evra with some clever footwork.
Milan looking good early on, knocking it around nicely.
A cruching early tackle from Park on Pirlo - a fair one though.
Milan kick-off but the ball quickly finds its way through to Van der Sar.
Right, we're off...
We're almost ready for this one and I'm not going to lie, I'm salivating a little bit - I think we've got a cracking game ahead of us.
Plenty of smiles as they shake hands, Ronaldinho's beaming, while Rio and Becks exchange a grin.
The players are out on the pitch now, the Rossoneri of Milan traditionally wearing red and black, while United are in white shirts, blue shorts.
The last time these two sides met at the San Siro, Milan destroyed United 3-0 in the 2007 semi-final. United had won the first leg 3-2 thanks to a last minute Rooney goal but they were a young side and Milan's experience really told in the econd leg. Goals from Kaka, Seedorf and Gilardino put Milan into the final where they overcame Liverpool to lift the Champions League title.
Just seen England boss Fabio Capello in the crowd, he will have his eye on new captain Rio Ferdinand, former England captain Beckham and talisman Wayne Rooney. Oh, and let's not forget Carrick is there too!
I just cannot wait for this one to start and I'm sure the two teams are eeking to get out there. It's an emotional nigjht for Beckham, who has been a United fan since childhood and has never faced his old team. The stadium is absolutely electric and the anticipation tangible!
And for United, Sir Alex's preference for playing a five man midfield away from home in Europe comes to frution again. It's certainly a busy United midfield with the energy of Park and Darren Fletcher, alongside the guile of Carrick and Scholes.
So there's some interesting selection issues, notably for Milan a return to the starting line-up for Alexandre Pato and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and of course - David Beckham's inclusion in a three man midfield to take on his former club for the first time.
Man Utd: Van der Sar, Rafael, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Carrick, Park, Scholes, Fletcher, Nani, Rooney
AC Milan: Dida, Bonera, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Antonini, Beckham, Ambrosini, Pirlo, Pato, Ronaldinho, Huntelaar.
