Old Trafford, England
Referee: Viktor Kassai
That's it, all over at Old Trafford, and United win thanks to Michael Carrick's second half strike. They weren't at their best by any means but they got away with it.
Evra does well at the back post to ensure Dzeko can't connect with a Ziani cross.
Two minutes added...
Martins twists and turns on the edge of the box but Ferdinand hacks clear.
What a waste, Wolfsburg stand it up at the far post and though Schafer wins the header United pick it up and bring it away. Fletcher's ball can't find Berbatov though.
Vidic scythes down Dzeko 30 yards out. Free kick. He's lucky not to get another yellow there.
Rooney lofts a beautiful ball for Berbatov, who nods into Anderson's path but his touch is heavy and Benaglio is out to claim.
Josue should have done better with that chance. He got to the edge of the box but dragged his shot wide of the post.
Schafer whacks a volley well over the bar.
Let's see what Oba can do. He scored last time he was here, when Newcastle drew 1-1 at the start of last season.
Changes: Fletcher on for Valencia and Martins comes on for Grafite.
Grafite nutmegs Ferdinand and tries to get round him but the defender blocks his path. Inexplicably, United get the free kick!
That was a tidy finish because Giggs was quite close to Carrick when he laid the ball off.
Intricate work inside the area as Berbatov held fire then slid in Giggs, he touched off to Carrick who side foots into the far corner from 17 yards out.
Just as I say that Berba slides in Giggs and though Rooney dives at his cross he can't connect.
Ziani pulls down Evra. The game is drifting a little at present..
Get in. Marlon Harewood brings Newcastle level.
Embarrassment for Rooney as he falls over the ball.
Wolfsburg change: Hasebe comes off and Ziani comes on.
Good delivery from Valencia after a sublime pass from Carrick but Schafer gets up to nod clear.
Its all coming through Rooney and Giggs fior United. Berbatov has disappeared somewhat.
Rooney does well to hold of Josue but his shot is partially blocked by Madlung and Benaglio catches comfortably.
Giggs gets carried away and has a crack from 35 yards. A poor effort by his standards.
Ronaldo has scored twice for Madrid against Marseille by the way. They lead 3-0.
Rooney swings in a wild corss to no one in particular. He's had a very hot and cold sort of night.
Carrick crosses but Giggs' connection isn't the best and Benaglio catches at the far post.
Giggs plays a short corner to Rooney who bends one narrowly over the bar. Great effort.
Giggs swings in the free kick but Wolfsburg eventually clear, then as United rebuild another Giggs cross is cleared by Costa.
Unfortunate for Wolfsburg that. Giggs was going for the near post and it ended up in the far corner. Costa gets booked for a tackle on Rooney.
Giggs strikes the free kick, it hits the wall and goes into the opposite corner.
Right, we have a game on here now. Dzeko's header was a cracking one and perhaps that will liven United up. Anderson wins a free kick from Josue. Twenty yards out, made for Giggs you'd think.
The replay shows that Dzeko was borderline offside. In my view its one of those that should benefit the attacker.
Hasebe stands the ball up at the far post and Dzeko rises above Evra to nod into the corner. Great header.
A superb flick from Rooney finds Anderson in space on the edge of the area but a diving Benaglio saves well.
Gentner gets into the box and has a pop with his left foot but it loops up off Carrick and Kuszczak can claim.
Rooney gives Anderson a gobful after the Brazilian passed to him instead of Giggs, who was totally unmarked.
The rain is lashing down at Old Trafford now. What a surprise, a downpour in Manchester.
The curse of the continental 'keeper. Benaglio, under no pressure, decides to punch rather than catch and United have another corner. Terrible.
Now United have a corner after Valencia's run and cross.
Costa flicks one miles wide from a Wolfsburg corner but from our camera angle it looked mighty close.
Right, here we go again. Newcastle are 1-0 down to QPR just in case you were wondering. What do you mean you weren't?
A sloppy Carrick pass brings the half to a close, fitting really, as it has all been a bit lacklustre. See you in 15 mins..
One minute to be added at the end of this first half...
Carrick meets Valencia's cross but his firm header is right at Benaglio.
Rooney has space for a shot on the edge of the area but it is a tame ffort.
Only two goals so far tonight, AC Milan trail to FC Zurich while Chelsea are one up against Apoel Nicosia.
Vidic is booked and rightly so. Grafite turned him beautifully on the half way line and Vidic responded by hauled him to the ground.
Ferdinand has to deal with a long ball after Dzeko had flicked on. He cushions a header back to Kuszczak from close range.
Anderson finds Berbatov but he was three yards offside. Poor.
A lovely looping cross from Giggs is met by Berba at the back post but he had to take it on the bounce and his effort sails over. Tough opportunity.
Berbatov had a great chance to slip Rooney or Giggs in there but he chose to fall over instead.
Would it be stating the obvious to say this game needs a goal?
Grafite wins a corner now after persistence near the byline but though Misimovic gets a free header he sticks it well over the bar.
Grafite had the right idea but his ball for Hasebe was just too strong. Wolfsburg could have been in there..
Anderson wins possession then sprays a lovely ball to Rooney but his shot is blocked by Josue. United starting to ramp things up here.
Berbatov flicks another delightful ball into the area but Carrick can't beat Benaglio from 16 yards. A poor effort, right at the 'keeper.
The ball is in the net but the flag is up. Berbatov is flagged offside, I think largely because O'Shea next to him actually was off, so his cross for Rooney to tap in doesn't count.
Dzeko reminds us he's still around with a long range effort that flies over the bar.
Valencia has fluffed a great chance. Berbatov's flick put him clean through but from the right hand side of the area he drags it well wide of the far post.
Decent break from United, Giggs feeds Rooney who loses control in the area, then when Giggs swings in the loose ball Valencia can't get hold of it at the back post.
Giggs crosses and John O'Shea lines it up at the back post before Josue gets his bonce on it to clear.
United free kick 30 yards out after handball from Riether.
Apparently Owen didn't train yesterday. Begs the question why he started today then doesn't it?
Here comes Berbatov, Owen trudges off.
Looks like Owen is done. Fabio Capello is here as well. Shame for little Mickey.
Rooney's in one of those moods where he looks like he might blow up at any minute. He had a little kick out at Schafer then after getting some close attention for the left back.
Rooney now smashes the ball out of play. They've started in slow mo, United.
Gentner has a mad 30 seconds. First his shot at the far post is more like a cross, then he knocks the ball out of play expecting that Schafer was overlapping down the flank.
Dimitar Berbatov is warming up. We think Owen may have picked up a knock.
WOlfsburg are growing in confidence here. It doesn't help that United keep giving them the ball.
Dzeko picks up a very loose ball from Evra but his shot lacks power and is wide.
Giggs crosses into the area and Owen gets in front of Madlung but he can't connect on it properly.
Schafer fires a low cross into the area but no-one can get a touch on it.
Vidic blocks Grafite out even though the German fans howl for a free kick. Get it? Howl? Wolfsburg?
Gentner has blown a golden chance! A sloppy clearance from Vidic bounced to Grafite, who played in Gentner but even though he was only 12 yards out his weak shot was claimed by Kuszczak.
Grafite gets inside the area but instead of busting it with his left he tries to come back inside and loses out.
A low key opening at Old Trafford its fair to say..
Valencia gets stuck into Dzeko who was back helping out his defence.
I like the look of Wolfsburg's front line don't you? Edin Dzeko scored 29 league goals last season and already has six this campaign while Grafite netted a hat-trick last time out against CSKA. Here we go...
The group's other game has already finished, CSKA Moscow beating Besiktas 2-1. You still feel both will struggle to qualify for the next stage though.
We could be in for a bit of a ding-dong if Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh is true to his word. He insists the Germans "will not hide" at Old Trafford. I'd settle for a nine-goal thriller wouldn't you?
So, Michael Owen gets a start alongside Wayne Rooney, while his ex-Newcastle striking colleague Obafemi Martins warms the bench for Wolfsburg. I'm not bitter at all, even though I'm a Geordie (I'm lying) (about the bitterness, not the Geordie bit) (enough of this).
Wolfsburg: Benaglio, Riether, Madlung, Ricardo Costa, Schafer, Josue, Hasebe, Misimovic, Gentner, Dzeko and Grafite. Subs: Lenz, Martins, Santana, Ziani, Pekarik, Dejagah and Barzagli.
Man Utd: Kuszczak, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Owen and Rooney. Subs: Foster, Brown, Berbatov, Nani, Scholes, Fabio Da Silva and Fletcher.
Its the English champions against the German champions and both sides won their opening game in the competition so tonight's winner will take a firm grip on Group B.
Good evening one and all and welcome to live coverage of Manchester United's Champions League clash with Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. Kick off is at 1945 BST.
