El Madrigal, Spain
Referee: Roberto Rosetti
Full time. What a dull affair. Why Villarreal held out for a 0-0 draw when Manchester United entertain Aalborg at home next is beyond me. They'll finish second and get a horror knockout draw. Serves them right. Cheerio.
Aalborg have taken the lead at home to Celtic, which means the hoops may not even get UEFA Cup football if they don't pull their finger out.
El Madrigal crowd howl whenever Ronaldo gets the ball now. The boy wonder looks hurt.
We're just winding down the clock now. Three minutes to go in stoppage time.
So, as it stands both Arsenal and Manchester United will progress.
Arsenal have nicked it. Bendtner has scored from a Fabregas pass.
Ibagaza falls over with Rooney chasing, ref awards free-kick. Maybe a touch of guilt for the red card perhaps?
Carrick off, Tevez on.
Nani has a kick out at Franco and the crowd is going ballistic. Nani off, JS Park on.
Oh! A straight red for Capdevila after a foul on Ronaldo. Not much in it really, a bit of a high leg, and it was late, yes, but that's never a straight red. Ronaldo did his bit of course.
Little mix-up between Ferdinand and Kuszczak there, a la Carson and Terry. No harm done though.
Darren Gibson has come on for Darren Fletcher. Yes, I know, who?
Chance! My word a chance! Carrick's ball, Rooney past the last man but on the left, his cross deflects off Fuentes and Capdevila heads off his own line.
Villarreal are clearly gunning for a 0-0 draw. Its United doing all the pressing.
Rossi comes off, Franco comes on.
Aalborg have equalised against Celtic. Hard not to laugh really.
Carrick nicks the ball off Rossi but fails to pick out Rooney with a slide rule pass.
Rio atones for an error that allowed Fernandez time and space in the box.
I meant preparing of course, just didn't catch the spello in time. I've altered it though so for years to come it'll be like it never existed. "And just like that, pohhh, he's gone."
Tevez is preparing to come on.
Great flick from Rooney finds Anderson, his ball for Ronny is ambitious but he nearly made it. United still attacking though, oh, apart from now, when they're not.
Good last ditch tackle from O'Shea. United had committed plenty of men forward when Ronaldo wasted possession all of a sudden.
Will someone please score please? Pleeeease? It was 0-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture too.
Rooney gets in after a ball over the top and hits a vicious shot in the spin. Once again, it is right at the keeper but he does well to err, well, stand there.
Pires off, Fernandez on.
A superb ball in from Cazorla, right in the danger area. Three yellow shirts slide in but can't make contact.
Pires wins a corner.
More delightful approach work from United, as O'Shea crosses for Anderson to side foot right at Lopez. Again!
Anderson hits a shot right at Lopez, then Fletcher slides in Rooney down the channel but he foes for a very ambitious chip rather than a return pass or angled shot. Wrong choice.
Arsenal continue to look ropey against Kiev.
Come on, let's have some goal pie.
Nice turn from Rossi, who flummocksed Ferdinand, but his cross is cleared by Evans.
Super move from United as Rooney, Evra, Ronaldo then Fletcher combine. It ends with an angled shot from the latter that flashes wide. Fuentes is carded for his clip on Rooney in the build up.
Its up to the referee to get a grip of it in my view. Corner for Villarreal.
Its all gone bitty at El Madrigal, silly fouls everywhere.
Celtic have scored. Barry Robson. Could this be their first EVER away win in the Champions League?
Capdevila dives this time and wins a free kick. Ronaldo is booked for protesting. Silly boy.
Ronaldo breaks and shoots, Lopez saves, Rooney nips in to get the rebound first and then throws himself to the floor looking for a pen. Should have been booked. Shameless from Rooney that.
A good clearing header from Evra this time as Rossi lurked. Evans had lost him.
Evra shanks the corner behind for another but the ref decides its a goal kick. Amazing.
Cazorla wins a corner off Jonny Evans..
More adventure from the home side this half please...
Nani is bright early, winning a corner...
Off again, Bruno is on for Senna...
Rooney goes down holding his bonce and wins a free-kick. Senna is struggling and wants off. Well, he'll be off a half time, its 0-0 so far.
The corner falls to Evans but he can't get a strike goalwards, then Pires hacks clear.
Ronaldo's free kick dips and Lopez palms away again. Decent effort.
Rooney is in down the left but his ball is poor and Capdevila clears the decks. Then Eguren is booked for a trip on Ronaldo.
What an effort! Anderson flings over a cross, Rooney cushions it and Ronaldo lets rip with a shot that Lopez turns brilliantly onto the bar. Best moment of the match.
Nani is lucky to escape a card after sliding in from behind on Senna.
Its Nani's turn to look aggrieved after a sturdy tackle from Godin. Its only a throw-in though...
Meanwhile at the Emirates, a Gallas mistake has nearly gifted Dynamo Kiev a goal. Oh how I wish it had...
Home side holding their own after a spell of United pressing.
Another nice move from United, Anderson's cross, Ronaldo's chest down and Fletcher's volley right at Lopez.
Rooney and Ronaldo link up but then O'Shea is flagged for handball. Mighty harsh that.
Kuszczak looks far from convincing as he comes for the corner and Evra has to hack clear...
Great defending header from Carrick, I think, falls to Venta whose shot takea a flick off Anderson and its a corner..
Quick feet from Rossi draws a foul from Nani and Rio at the same time. Free kick, wide left.
Senna drives a daisy cutter in a the other end but no bother for Kuszczak.
Ronaldo whacks in a swerver but it is right at Lopez and he clutches on semi-comfortably.
First yellow of the game goes tro Javi Venta for a late slider on Ronaldo who instantly adopts his "that really hurt but only until the ref books you" face.
Pires and Ibagaza swapped passes and the former Arsenal winger takes a tubmle in the box as he goes for the return. No pen though.
Come on game, give us a goal...
Now we head down the other end as Villarreal edge up the line winning a series of throw-ins..
That's better from United, a quick passing move involving Rooney, Nani, Anderson and Ronaldo. Anderson just delays his pass for Rooney and Venta nips in to clear.
No goals involving Celtic, Arsenal or Manchester United yet. Real Madrid are 1-0 up in BATE Borisov though.
Now the Roonatic gets the ball in the corner and slips when he goes to cross, knocking the ball out of play. Genius.
Rooney runs at Fuentes and goes down theatrically but the ref waves him up quick smart. Too right, no contact at all there.
Rio Ferdinand boots one aimlessly down the line and out for a throw.
A lovely spell of passing ends with a fizzer from Cazorla and a good save from Kuszczak. Villarreal running the game...
The home side are dominant now, Cazorla making a break that Carrick does well to interrupt.
United are definitely under orders to harry VIllarreal when in possession. Give them time on the ball and they'll pull you to pieces.
That was a bit of a nothing comment wasn't it? Rythmn? Eh? Just goes to show not much is happening in the game....
The game settling into a rythmn now..
United clear the corner, then O'Shea and Ronaldo fashion a goal kick after a hurried flash of possession near the corner flag.
Ibagaza wins a corner after good work from Senna.
Two poor efforts in quick succession from former Manchester United youngster Giuseppi Rossi, now plying his trade for the yellows in Spain.
Then Rooney has the ball in the net from an Evra cut back but the Frenchman was flagged offside. A tight call. That looked level.
A bit of handbags after Ronny's shot. Ibagaza gives Ronaldo a tap on the back of the head and the Portuguese takes a swipe. The ref clams things down.
Lopez is worked again as Anderson heads down the left and fires in a cross looking for Rooney. The keeper beats the ball away, then Ronaldo has a shot that flies wide.
Nani wriggles free of Javi Venta but the full back manages to get a boot to his cross and Lopez clears.
Its all a bit congested in midfield at present. Hard to tell whether the pitch is titchy because of the low camera angle. Think Highbury.
Ronaldo is booed for a late clip on Senna. A theme to be repeated throughout the evening I feel...
Of course, I shall be keeping you up to date with all the other goings on, even though you've probably got multiple windows open to follow them all...
The state of play in Group E boils down to this basically. Unless something stellar occurs, both these sides will go through. But what they are fighting tooth and nail for is top spot, meaning their chance of facing a big club in the next stage is reduced.
So Ronaldo does start despite all that griping about his poorly grazed ankle. Don't forget they play local rivals Manchester City at the weekend, so injuries will be mourned like the dropping of a hot and tasty pie on a cold winter's day.
Man Utd: Kuszczak, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani, Anderson and Rooney. Subs from: Foster, Giggs, Park, Vidic, Rafael Da Silva, Gibson and Tevez.
No time for small talk here when the teams have just been released. Boom! Villarreal: Diego Lopez, Javi Venta, Rodriguez, Fuentes, Capdevila, Santi Cazorla, Senna, Eguren, Pires, Rossi and Ibagaza. Subs from: Viera, Edmilson, Franco, Cygan, Fernandez, Angel and Bruno.
