There we are. A huge roar greets the final whistle. Never will you see a more one-sided hour of football, but then something happened, and Fenerbahce recovered to score two goals in 16 minutes. Colin Kazim-Richards, plying his trade for Brighton not long ago, changed the game and now Fener have a lead to protect at Chelsea. Buckle up Avram, it's going to get bumpy. Until next time...
Now Chelsea have a free kick, which Cudicini launches long, but Wederson boots clear.
Terry has conceded a free kick. Last chance for the home side, but Alex takes it too quickly and wastes the opportunity.
Terry slams one into the area and Volkan comes wandering out, but Anelka can't make him look foolish (again) by getting enough purchase on his header.
Three added minutes.
Alex takes it but the ball goes straight through to Cudicini.
Fre kick for Fener.
Fenerbahce are stroking the ball about nicely now. Amazing what two goals can do for a bit of confidence eh?
Chelsea inject a bit of urgency into proceedings with Essien breaking down the right. Anelka plays him in but the Ghanain can't find anyone with his cross and the last touch is off him.
Anelka has gone wide left by the looks of it. What the point of that is I know not.
Here's the change, Anelka is on for Joe Cole.
Nicolas Anelka is about to come on, no doubt to a very tasty reception from his former crowd.
The crowd are going ballistic now!
Deivid's shot was almost an after thought. It was under his feet if anything, but he adjusted and then smashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner. What a goal!
Chelsea are shellshocked here. Fenerbahce didn't string three passes together until about 20 minutes ago, and now they find themselves in front. Astonishing. Prepare yourself for another barrage of flak in the press Avram.
What a goal that is! Deivid will never hit another one as good as that. He's let fly from 35 yards out and it has arrowed right in the postage stamp. Incredible!
GOAL! Fenerbahce are in front!
The whistle went for a free kick just before the ball broke for John Terry, who was about to score.
Chelsea have a corner.
Awful football from both Malouda and Volkan. The Chelsea winger crosses far too near the keeper, but for some reason Volkan flaps at it and causes panic in the penalty area. He's useless!
Now Drogba is claiming he had his shirt pulls as he tried to run past Lugano. He doesn't help himself by falling to the floor as if his leg had been chopped off by a huge meat cleaver. Pathetic.
Jon Obi Mikel is on for Lampard as Chelsea look to tighten up a little.
Another rick from Drogba, Lampard burst ahead of him and was pleading for a pass but Drogba dithers and the chance is lost. What is wrong with him this evening?
Now Kazim-Richards swings in a delightful cross but no-one can profit from it, then Ballack fouls him and the crowd howl in derision.
Now Joe Cole is angry with Drogba - he should have offloaded to the winger but tried to take on three players at once and failed.
Zico is almost playing four up front now! He knows he needs to go for it.
Kezman's nightmare is over, and Semih is on in his place.
What a story for Kazim-Richards too. Not long ago he was playing for Brighton in League One. Now he's scoring against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals in front of 50,000. Bit of a change from the blustery Withdean Stadium eh?
Well, well, well. Twenty minutes left for Fenerbahce to snatch a second goal. Surely, given Chelsea's home record, they'll need to take a lead to London.
Awful from Drogba. Awful. High and wide.
Ooh, Ballack had a golden chance to make it 2-1! Slipped into the area by Joe Cole he hits it straight at Volkan from 15 yards out. Now Drogba wins a free kick just outside the area, close to the right hand side angle.
Well, that is the ultimate lesson in paying the price for not taking your chances. Chelsea should be AT LEAST two goals ahead but have been profligate. And if you don't capitalise there is always the chance you will concede.
Unbelievable! They've hardly had a kick let alone a chance but Aurelio's ball finds Kazim-Richards who made a lovely run, and he has slammed it past Cudicini to equalise. Zico has gone (Brazil) nuts!
GOAL! Kazim-Richards has levelled things up!
Alex tries a shot but it is straight at Cudicini.
A good tussle between Ballack and Maidonado - which ends with a Turkish victory.
Chelsea are being a little too cute near the opposition box at present. Too many flicks and tricks are being attempted.
Drogba again should have done better after he got past Onder. If he'd been on it tonight Chelsea could be three or four to the good.
All quiet at the Emirates by the way, no chances of note to report.
Another chance for Didier Drogba, but his curler starts out too wide. He really should have looked for either Joe Cole or Lampard. He's not been anywhere near his best tonight.
Volkan, the keeper, is wearing what looks like a scarf. It looks ridiculous.
Good break from Chelsea after Kazim-Richards is dispossessed by Ashley Cole. Ballack eventually fires a shot in which Volkan saves well.
Lampard fires in a free kick which Carvalho meets at the back post but his header is wild and over the bar. Now three players are down after the collision, Carvalho himself, Edu and John Terry.
Colin Kazim-Richards is on for Ugur Boral.
Ooh, Kezman tries an overhead kick after the corner ricocheted towards him. Cudicini had to be smart there, but there were three players on the line if it sneaked past him.
Aurelio's corner goes through everyone, and Carvalho is grateful to hack clear. They have another corner and the crowd are starting to up the noise again.
Onder and Aurelio combine nicely there but the latter can't get his cross past John Terry. Corner.
Another neat move from Chelsea, as Drogba peels off and tries to curl a shot into the far corner, but he deosn't connect right and Volkan saves comfortably.
Free-kick for Chelsea, which Lampard wastes by hitting the first man. Then Carvalho looks long for Terry, but Volkan punches straight to Malouda but his ball back in is weak and allows the dodgy keeper to catch.
First clear opening for Fener, Alex spreads it wide for Onder and then charges into the box to meet the cross, but his header flashes wide. Much, much better.
More positive play from Chelsea as Lampard heads into the area but can't get shake off Onder to find Joe Cole who was unmarked in the middle. It's as you were in this game so far.
SLoppy play from Onder there, gifting the ball to Malouda, and the right back will be grateful to his centre back, Edu Dracena, who mops up the danger.
Kejman is flagged offisde after Aurelio's flighted ball. He looked suspiciously level, however.
No changes to tell you about at half time, but hopefully a big difference in the home side's patter. They have to get at Chelsea in this second half.
The second installment begins...
A great start for Chelsea, which could, and perhaps should, have been even better. They lead one zip at HT.
There will be one minute added.
A decent opportunity wasted by a poor cross from Onder, and as Chelsea break Ballack lofts a ball from Drogba to run onto and Volkan is out smartly to nip it off his boot.
Lampard's ball is cleared by Alex.
Drogba has finished sulking and is back on, sprinting at full pace to try and meet a Joe Cole pass. Amazing. Corner.
The ref isn't having any of it. He can see it was one of Drogba's Platoon moments. Minimal contact. Maximum theatrics.
Now Drogba is at it, rolling round on the floor after an aerial contest. Get up!
Kezman sums up his anonymous half by appealing for a non-existent penalty as both Essien and Carvalho beat him in the air. Get up.
Two decent crosses into the box for Chelsea to deal with. First Onder fires one in that Carvalho completely misses, then Wederson crosses deep but Deivid can't connect. Better.
Zico does not look impressed. Fener's players can expect an extra potent Zico-rocket at half time. The substitutes are currently clearing the home dressing room of any sharp objects.
That's better from Fenerbahce - Wederson gets very tight to Joe Cole as Essien looked for him and snuffed out the threat.
Fenerbahce have finally found their feet and the game is growing into more of a contest. They could do with a leveller before half time mind.
What a waste. Chelsea had five on four but for some unknown reason Drogba elects to shoot from 30 yards rather than choose any number of better options. Rubbish!
Cudicini comes for the corner and gets a half decent fist on it, allowing Makelele to complete the clearance. That was a better spell from the home side.
Deivid won the header but JT heads clear, then Aurelio controls the return ball well and forces another corner off Malouda, amid claims for a pen.
Fener have a corner!
Nearly a half chance for Fener, as Deivid beats Makelele and fires one into the area, but John Terry gets in the way before Drogba tries to release Malouda at the other end, but fails.
Ooh, Volkan Demirel has saved well from Drogba, who turned Wederson inside the area then unleashed a shot on goal. That was very nearly the second goal that Chelsea deserve.
Now Lampard nods just wide after Fenerbahce fail to clear on the edge of their box. Drogba first looked for Lamps but that was cleared, but Essien headed back in and the England man flicked it narrowly wide. Chelsea's second goal is imminent.
FENERBAHCE IN EFFORT ON GOAL SHOCK! Wederson has had a pop from a tight angle and it has flown wide. But hopefully that'll make them feel a bit better about themselves eh?
Meanwhile, in Turkey, Chelsea have won a corner. Lampard takes it but Lugano nods clear.
Liverpool are level at the Emirates, Gerrard has created a goal for Dirk Kuyt.
Ooh, Drogba has very nearly made it two. Essien lobbed in a cross and the forward leapt well clear of Turaci but planted his towering header just wide. It's all Chelsea.
Adebayor has put Arsenal in front against Liverpool. A bullet header from a corner.
More decent work from Ashley Cole down the left (oh it pains me to praise the little wretch) who bursts clear of Turaci and crosses again, but Drogba can't reach it.
It's still all square at the Emirates by the way, Arsenal with only a few half chances early on.
Chelsea are picking their passes out at will here, there are gaps everywhere. The hosts are rocking and a reeling, to borrow a 1950s rock 'n' roll catchphrase.
Now Drogba looks for Joe Cole but his ball is over-cooked and Fener have a throw in.
Fenerbahce haven't had a kick since the goal. Someone needs to get a grip in midfield.
Ooh Essien has hit the bar! He's smashed it from 30 yards and it has swerved away from the keeper and flicked off the top of the crossbar. Great hit.
The hosts are a little shaken by that goal, and well they might be, but they need to regain their composure quick smart or Chelsea could pot a second. oo-er.
But Fenerbahce did concede two goals in nine minutes in the previous round, when they travelled to Sevilla, and they ended up winning that game so don't discount them just yet.
Chelsea had just started to flex their muscles before the goal, and with their defensive record, it all points to a huge mountain to climb for the Turkish side.
It's an own goal by Deivid. He flung out a leg after Malouda broke into the box and flashed a ball across the face of goal. Unfortunate for Fenerbahce but an ideal start for Chelsea. And finally, the crowd are silent for a second.
GOAL! Chelsea are in front!
The Joe Cole cuts inside and tries to chip Demirel but the back-peddling keeper clutches the ball gratefully to his chest. I've seen him fumble those before.
First threatening move from Chelsea, a lovely one-two between Ballack and Joe Cole allows the latter to cross but Drogba is just a yard behind his thinking and can't connect.
Alex does well to recover after failing to clear Ashley Cole's ball in, as Ballack lurked behind him. Chelsea's Alex (no relation) is on the bench, in case you were wondering.
Then Lampard overhits a simple ball and hands Fenerbahce a throw in. Ashley Cole was not impressed with Big Frank after that.
That's pretty aimless from Lugano. His ball over the top is shepherded behind by Ashley Cole. They'll have to do better than that.
Ashley Cole has a chance to cross for Chelsea but Wederson blocks, and then comes clear with the ball.
However, Chelsea haven't conceded a Champions League goal for over ten hours. That's what you call formidable.
The pattern is set early on with Chelsea set up solidly, looking to counter attack, and happy to let Fenerbahce come at them.
The free-kick is cleared and Chelsea streak up the other end, but Malouda's ball falls into the arms of Demirel - the keeper who nearly cost his side their second round tie with Sevilla by chucking two in his net early on, then redeeming himself with three saves in the shoot out that decided the game.
Kezman does well to win a free-kick off Ballack. First chance for the home side.
Lampard has his firs touch, hooking a ball round the corner for Drogba but he can't prevent a Fenerbahce goal kick.
We're off, amid a cacophony of noise....
There is a huge banner which reads 'The rising sun over Europe,' suspended between two banks of Fenerbahce's fans bedecked in yellow and blue. That is because, or course, Fener's stadium is on the Asian side of the Bosphorus.
Fans starting trickling into the stadium about FOUR hours ago and as you'd expect, it looks fantastic. Noisy, colourful and vibrant - completely the opposite to Stamford Bridge.
And of course, Chelsea will be buoyed (quite literally) by the news that tubby midfield general Frank Lampard is fit enough to claim his place in the side. There's no doubt that his fellow players, as well as management and fans, feel a bit more snug and cosy with Lamps in the team.
As for the Blues, Nicolas Anelka has to make do with a place on the bench amid all the speculation that he was finally set to start up front with the main man - Didier Drogba.
There we are. So, Roberto Carlos hasn't recovered from injury in time to make the cut but former Chelsea Mateja Kezman starts and will be desperate to banish the memory of his nightmare spell in the Premier League by dumping his old club out of Europe's most glittering competition.
Let's try that Fenerbahce team again, and see if our technology does a better job of it this time: Demirel, Turaci, Lugano, Edu Dracena, Wederson, Maldonado, Aurelio, Boral, Deivid, Alex and Kezman.
And Chelsea: Cudicini, Essien, Carvalho, Terry, Ashley Cole, Makelele, Joe Cole, Ballack, Lampard, Malouda and Didier Drogba.
Here are the teams, starting with Fenerbahce: Demirel, Turaci, Lugano, Edu Dracena, Wederson,
Maldonado, Aurelio, Boral, Deivid, Alex and Kezman.
Well, it's another monster night in the Champions League and while most of the continent's attention is focused on the Battle of Britain at the Emirates, this tasty looking tie has been somewhat forgotten. While it may not have the intrigue of Arsenal versus Liverpool it still should be a fascintating encounter. And one thing is for sure, the atmosphere at the Emirates won't be a patch on Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
Join us from 19.45(GMT) to see if Avram Grant's Chelsea can win in Hell. That's Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium to you and me.
