Game 10

  • 94'

Swiss players trudge off, they really didn't deserve that. What a thrilling game.

  • 94'

Turkey have hope against the Czechs. It's all or nothing for them.

  • 94'

And that's it. Switzerland are the first team out of Euro 2008. What heartbreak.

  • 93'

Turkey are going mad on the bench. They've ignored him on the wing for most of the second half, but what an impact.

  • 93'

Surely there's no time to get back into it. Kazim breaks and everyone is up the other end. He's fouled though.

  • 92'

Slight deflection, but the 21 year old has won it for Turkey in the final seconds. What heartbreak for the Swiss.

  • 92'

GOAL! What a run. Takes it inside no his right foot and smashes a shot in! Goodbye Switzerland.

  • 92'

Volkan comes out to get there ahead of Derdiyok again. Turkey break and Turan runs..

  • 91'

Terim is going mad on the sidelines. Asik comes back on with his head in bandages.

  • 90'

Volkan chooses to punch again, odd choice but the ball is cleared. Magnin pumps it back and Hamit gets the free-kick.

  • 89'

Asik is bleeding all over the place and has now collapsed. Not a pleasant injury, he headed the back of Derdiyok's head.

  • 89'

Final flurry from Switzerland now. They need a goal.

  • 88'

Asik misjudges the bounce and Derdiyok can't race onto it.

  • 88'

Volkan punches clear and the shot back in finds Senderos, who is offside - except for the fact he's about 5 yards ONside. Oh well.

  • 87'

That was on its way in, but the wall did their job.

  • 86'

Four mins left. And this is the best chance for the Swiss to make it 2-1. Yakin is not on anymore, so it's Magnin. Deflected over the wall.

  • 85'

Inler is caught. Right on the edge of the box and it's a great chance.

  • 85'

Turkey may regret taking Nihat off at such a critical stage. They look happy to defend for now.

  • 84'

Yakin comes off. But Nihat also comes off for Kazim in the Turkish lineup. What about Tuncay? He's been so wasteful!

  • 84'

The Swiss had three against one defender. Poor effort, they really should have scored.

  • 83'

Switzerland charge forward. Yakin gives is across and Vonlanthan has the final shot. Volkan saves, only just, and Yakin comes in for the rebound. Volkan dives on it though and the danger is over.

  • 83'

Handball by Vonlanthen. Lots of action in the box. Break is on, three on one....

  • 82'

Turker are attacking all down the right. Whereas their best player, Turan, is on the left. Odd.

  • 81'

Hamit is wide, but his ball is cut back to Nihat. He fouls Cabanas, and the freekick is given.

  • 80'

Swiss fans are rallying. The noise is up again and the Turkish fans are finding something to cheer about.

  • 79'

Turkey in a good spell of possession. They look like the ones to break through, but any one mistake and that's it for them.

  • 78'

Hamit gets the ball in and Mueller blocks. Aurelio shoots and guess who's there again.. Mueller.

  • 78'

Kazim is stretching his legs. He should have been on earlier really, but may get his chance to shine.

  • 78'

Lichtsteiner spews some bile at the assitant. What a nice chap. He doesn't get the free-kick either.

  • 78'

Tens mins left for either side to take control. Come on lads, put on a show for us.

  • 77'

Hamit hits one of the worst free-kicks I've ever seen. 45 yards out. A sidefoot. And Row Z has a shiny new ball to play with.

  • 76'

Behrami is forced off the ball and Turan finds Tuncay. Magnin is there to stop Nihat getting on the end of the cross, and Tuncay really should be doing better with these crosses.

  • 75'

Gelson comes off and Cabanas gets his 50th cap for the Swiss.

  • 75'

Cetin deals with the threat of Derdiyok again. They're pumping long balls up to the youngster and it could bear fruit soon.

  • 74'

Gelson and Senturk clash, but Turkey get the free-kick.

  • 73'

The big man carries on. Turan turns and releases Tuncay. What a ball, the Boro man pulls it across the box and Nihat misses out. Great chance there and Turan was the provider.

  • 72'

Great run from Vonlanthen, but he tried to beat one player too many and Cetin came across. He's in pain now and is taking some time to get to his feet.

  • 71'

The noise is insane as Volkan wastes some time by labouring over his goalkick.

  • 70'

As I said that, Inler gets the ball on the edge of the box and unleashes the shot. Deflected off Cetin, but there's no corner given.

  • 69'

A draw really doesn't do these sides much good. They both need the win, but there's been few chances to really change the score.

  • 68'

Derdiyok finds space after the ball from Vonlanthen. Should have done better there, but Volkan comes out to claim it well.

  • 67'

Interesting news coming in, Scolari taking over at Chelsea. Stay tuned for more...

  • 66'

Nihat looks for space and finds some to shoot. Senderos gets his body in the way, and it hits his arm, despite it being behind his body.

  • 65'

Barnetta comes off and Vonlanthen on.

  • 65'

Magnin with a swinging cross. Good ball in, but Derdiyok's header is not quite right.

  • 64'

Tuncay takes a shot, but snatches at it and doesn't connect properly. Turan is the man who should be commanding the Turkish attacks, but the ball just isn't finding him on the wing.

  • 64'

Good ball from Inler. Two Swiss players in the box and the header is well claimed by Volkan. One for the cameras for sure, but a decent chance for the Swiss.

  • 62'

Cetin climbs for the corner and heads it high in the air. It goes over the bar, but both sides have the chance to win this tie.

  • 60'

Great ball from Aurelio and Senturk latches on to it. He's looked good since arriving. Senderos takes control and hacks the ball away from in front of his keeper.

  • 60'

Portugal are through if it stays this way.

  • 60'

Desperate stuff from Turkey at the back. Yakin swings it in and Magnin shoots. Great effort and the game has really opened up as the pitch has dried out.

  • 59'

Magnin and Cetin tangle, now all the players are in the ref's face. They're pushing and pulling in the box, and it's pretty ugly. Volkan punches high and away.

  • 58'

Oh and Derdiyok nearly makes an opening. His header down slides across the box, Volkan was nowhere and if it hadn't been for Balta, it would have been 2-1.

  • 57'

Against the run of play really, but now the Turkish fans are in full voice.

  • 56'

Good cross from Nihat and Senturk made the run between the defenders. Benaglio should really have done a bit better there, and push the ball into the roof of the net.

  • 56'

GOAL! And it's 1-1. Senturk the sub, found space in the box and headed Turkey level.

  • 56'

Behrami is doing well, he slips past a few challenges and gets the ball across from a tight angle. Impressive stuff from the blonde midfielder.

  • 55'

Senturk with the header, but Benaglio is there to collect. Not much in the Turkish attacks at the moment.

  • 54'

Derdiyok does really well there. He slid in to get the ball and Hamit went down. Not much in it, but Hamit goes over. The Swiss player then kicks the ball away and is booked.

  • 53'

Good cover from Lichtsteiner. Aurelio was in a good position, but just as the Brazilian born player was about to shoot, he was tackled.

  • 53'

Whistles around the stadium as Behrami breaks through on the left, but the ref blows his whistle. Not sure why, but the Swiss attack was stopped in full flow.

  • 52'

Senturk is caught just offside. Good step up from Senderos, hand up and everything - he looked just like Tony Adams.

  • 52'

Turan dribbles well, but the fina; ball is poor again. Turkey have to push on, but with Derdiyok's pace they may get caught on the break.

  • 51'

The Swiss aren't missing Frei at all. Yakin and Derdiyok are running the show up front.

  • 50'

Derdiyok is sprinting through again, he just takes his eye off the ball though. Yakin was in a good position, but nothing came of it.

  • 49'

Senderos is pushed into a puddle on the far side. What a sight. Poor fella probably just changed his shirt as well, and now he's all wet again!

  • 48'

Good play by Behrami again, who has looked impressive. His cross is gathered by Volkan though.

  • 47'

I thought that was a penalty for a second, but Balta really shouldn't have done it. He had players behind him who could have scored, what a foolish thing to do.

  • 47'

Handball! Oh but it wasn't a Swiss player. Balta sticks his hand out and stops his team-mates from getting on the end of the cross. He gets booked too.

  • 46'

Derdiyok breaks. Great pace and he is fouled. He lokos so much better than Streller.

  • 46'

Short quick passes are now the order of the day for Turkey. The groundstaff have done well, although the ball is still holding up in the wide areas.

  • 45'

Benaglio gets a grip on the ball after Senderos made a small mistake. Turan has a glint in his eye as the Turks surge forward, a change of attitude is unsurprising. They need to win.

  • 45'

Turkey have made some changes. Karadeniz is off, Senturk is on.

  • 45'

Second half, and as long as the rain holds off we should be ok.

  • 45'

And the whistle goes. Groundsmen run onto the pitch to try and get rid of some of the water. Let's hope it doesn't carry on like this in the second half.

  • 45'

Kazim is warming up, he could be the spark for Turkey.

  • 45'

One minute left. The Swiss will be far happier, but both sides deserve credit for entertaining on such an unforgivable surface.

  • 44'

Beharmi links with Gelson, but given away and Turkey can break. They really need to string something together if they're going to get back into the game.

  • 44'

Derdiyok races on to the ball and puts a tackle in on Asik. An unfair one though. The youngster has looked very bright and his pace will be the only outlet for the Swiss in this weather.

  • 43'

Getting a little tasty as the tackles fly in. Turan goes sliding in on Inler and tempers flare briefly, but the ref does well to control the situation.

  • 42'

Three mins left, and no more rain hopefully. Here's hoping the groundstaff have a huge sponge, to soak up all the surface water.

  • 41'

Free-kick from Yakin. He should have at least made Volkan work, but hit the wall. Balta goes down and Tumer is down as well. Ouch, that free-kick hit him where the sun don't shine.

  • 41'

Behrami does his best to run with it, but he's trying to drag the ball forward and Aurelio takes him out.

  • 40'

Hamit takes, puts it high in the air and Benaglio is there to hold the ball. Thankfully the rain has subsided.

  • 39'

Karadeniz is fouled on the far side and takes a quick shower in an on-pitch puddle. Cetin is up for the free-kick and he's huge.

  • 38'

Barnetta tries to run with it, but it holds up and he outruns the ball. No way of dribbling at all. Long punts up field are the order of the day. Oh joy.

  • 37'

Yakin controls the long ball beautifully. He's offside? Or is it foot up? Either way, play is stopped and the Turks breathe again.

  • 36'

The long ball over the top is being favoured. With good reason. A passing game is just impossible.

  • 36'

Hamit hits it long. Turan picks it up and Balta loses out. Derdiyok chases after the ball and Cetin closes him out.

  • 35'

Torrid time for the defenders and goalkeeper. You really don't want to be passing back to the keeper today. Yakin holds his head and will be in real torment if Turkey equalise.

  • 34'

Oh good lord. How did he miss that??? Behrami does so well to cross through the water. Yakin is there on the far post as it squirms across. Defenders are no-where. But he misses.

  • 33'

Try calling this match off now!

  • 32'

Incredible stuff. I think he would have scored anyway, but the conditions definately helped. Great pace from young Derdiyok. Good composure too, to slot the ball across.

  • 32'

GOAL! Great ball from Yakin sends Derdiyok through. He beats the keeper and slides the ball across the box. The ball holds up, stops, and Yakin taps it in from 5 yards out.

  • 30'

Ouch. Inler has been caught by Tuncay. The ball held up and the Boro man just went straight through his man. No complaints.

  • 30'

Nihat gets a shirt pull, and he'll need a new one now. Ripped in half. Didn't get the free-kick either.

  • 29'

Lichtsteiner is complaining that he couldn't kick the ball, because of the rain. Thunder and lightening crashing around the stadium and I'm starting to wonder if the ref is thinking about calling this off.

  • 28'

Nihat whips it in. Turan heads it onto the post! Great delivery and the goalkeeper punches it onto Turan's head. He knew nothing about it.

  • 27'

Odd moment as Tuncay is fouled in the boz, no, outside the box. Good chance from a free-kick, but maybe it should have been a penalty.

  • 26'

'It's like playing in a pond' say our friends on TV. The ball is now starting to stop halfway through a pass.

  • 25'

Fernandes tries to get Derdiyok through. But the ball skids through to the keeper.

  • 25'

Terrible corner. Although in the quagmire that has become the pitch, it's not surprising.

  • 24'

Barnetta strikes it. Volkan goes down and makes the save. Good stuff from the keeper there.

  • 24'

Karadeniz crashes into Magnin. Good chance for a free-kick goal now. Three around it.

  • 23'

Great ball from Inler. Yakin takes it down and unleashes a shot, well turned around the post by Volkan. Best move of the match so far.

  • 22'

Derdiyok is pulled down in his own half. Hard to see much flowing football, although it's not for want of trying.

  • 21'

Karadeniz is beaten to the ball by a sliding Senderos.

  • 21'

Good play by Hamit, who usually plays as an attacking midfielder. His skills are a tad wasted at right-back. He plays it to Tuncay, who wriggles through the challenges.

  • 20'

The ball is being held up in the mud. Really should have gone out for a throw, but it's a Swiss throw eventually.

  • 19'

Three reds shirts take the ball off Turan and Karadeniz loses out in the tackle. Derdiyok drives the ball from 35 yards, but Volkan just holds on. Great effort in these conditions, always worth a go.

  • 18'

Balta's clearance hits Behrami and the Swiss charge forward, deep in the Turkish half.

  • 18'

The coaches look pretyt unhappy. It's a must win game for both sides, and the conditions are just dreadful. It's a bit of a lottery now.

  • 17'

Who ordered all this rain? The is Switzerland, not London!

  • 16'

Turan tracks back and makes a great tackle. Gelson hacks him down and is luck not to get a yellow.

  • 15'

Cetin's long ball fails to find anyone, but poor play from Benaglio nearly saw Turan take advantage. His clearance went through his legs!!

  • 15'

The ball squirms through, but Yakin overhits the shot. We're going to be playing in snorkels fairly soon.

  • 14'

Behrami and Lichtsteiner make some headway down the right hand side. Foul given, and a chance to trouble the unpredictable Volkan.

  • 14'

Wow, what rain! It's really chucking it down. Glad I'm not out in the stands!

  • 13'

The Swiss are dropping off, not able to get Derdiyok in the game. Mind you, the Turks aren't exactly making anything of it now.

  • 12'

Scrappy stuff as Senderos beats Tuncay in the air. Now the rain falls, that'll liven up the surface a bit.

  • 11'

The game has gone a tad dead. Neither side able to take control.

  • 10'

Yakin fails to take advantage though. He should be able to capitalise on Cetin's lack of pace, the big Turk has strapping all over his leg.

  • 9'

Balta has blood from his ear and is sent off to get repairs. Turkey down to ten for the moment.

  • 8'

Hamit pops up on the right wing, Turan is there too and he is able to wriggle away from the tackles. Great play from the 21 year old, the ball is stuck to his foot. But his cross lacked something, and the ball was well claimed by Benaglio.

  • 7'

Yakin gets the ball across, but it's too long. Behrami races after it, but he can't get there. At least these two sides look interested in going for the win.

  • 7'

Turan's ball in finds Karadeniz. But offside. Only just. That was close.

  • 6'

Good pace to the game already and there's always a bit of needle too. Nihat and Tuncay are playing intricate balls together in the box, but the danger is snuffed out.

  • 5'

Hamit cuts inside and finds the 5'3'' Karadeniz. Nice play from the Turks, but Nihat's whipped in ball is caught well by Benaglio.

  • 5'

Poor play from Barnetta there. Put the ball straight out, and Kobi Kuhn looks pretty unhappy on the sidelines.

  • 4'

Magnin tries to get the ball forward, good positive stuff from both sides. That makes a change from watching Greece last night.

  • 4'

The noise every time the Swiss get the ball is immense. Turkey have obviously brought a fair few supporters, because there's a fair few boos ringing out.

  • 3'

The Swiss get the ball in the opposing half and Derdiyok is fouled. Great flick from Fernandes and Barnetta was racing through, but couldn't catch up to it.

  • 2'

Tuncay appears to be playing in midfield here. Kazim Kazim has been dropped, for some reason. He was quality in their first game, but there you go.

  • 2'

Nihat tries to find Aurelio from the corner, but the ball is cleared well and Turan is blown up for backing in.

  • 1'

The Swiss gave it away straight away. Turan backheel gives Balta space, but his cross fails to beat Mueller.

Turan takes all of 2 seconds to show his skills. Great turn, he's definately one to watch.

    Here we go...

Nihat and Tuncay looked a little out of sorts in their first game, but they're still strong finishers. Without Frei, the Swiss hopes rest on Derdiyok who is only 19, but rapid.

Portugal will qualify if it's a draw, and it would also make the last round of games pretty exciting. If Turkey win, then it's between them and the Czechs for second place - and I'll be there in Geneva on Sunday night.

How big is the pressure on the Swiss tonight. o much build up, but if they lose here, they're on their way home. At least it's not far.

No Emre for the Turks. He'll be a big miss for them, but Turan and Gokdeniz Karadeniz can cover well in his absence.

Here it is in full: Turkey: 23-Volkan Demirel; 22-Hamit Altintop, 15-Emre Asik, 2-Servet Cetin, 3-Hakan Balta; 10-Gokdeniz Karadeniz, 11-Tumer Metin, 7-Mehmet Aurelio, 14-Arda Turan; 17-Tuncay Sanli, 8-Nihat Kahveci

For Turkey, there's no Zan. He's replaced by Asik, and Cetin is fit. Look out for Arda Turan on the wing too, he's a box of tricks and could be on his way to the EPL.

    Switzerland: 1-Diego Benaglio; 5-Stephan Lichtsteiner, 20-Patrick Mueller, 4-Philippe Senderos, 3-Ludovic Magnin; 19-Valon Behrami, 8-Gokhan Inler, 15-Gelson Fernandes, 16-Tranquillo Barnetta; 10-Hakan Yakin; 12-Eren Derdiyok

So the teams are in: co-hosts Switzerland are without star striker Frei, so Yakin is in. Youngster Derdiyok comes in for the awful Streller, so here's the lineup.

Let's hope there are no more scenes like we saw in their WC qualifier in 2006. Brawls, bans and suchlike. Tonight should be all about the footy.

Hi, and welcome to the ESPNsoccernet commentary for Switzerland v Turkey.
