ITALY WIN AND TOP GROUP E. Materazzi and Inzaghi got the goals, and the Czech hopes disappeared when Polak was sent off at the end of the first half.
And spare a thought for Nedved, in his first and only World Cup. He's been excellent, but it's not been enough for the Czechs.
And even in injury time, Nedved won't give up - but he still can't find a way through.
Materazzi is still off. No worries otherwise for Italy now, apart from the injuries to him and Nesta.
Meanwhile, Materazzi, caught by Jarolim after he shot, needs treatment.
A chance for a shot, but Jarolim was unable to apply power to it.
The Czechs are in the last-chance saloon. Nedved has a free kick near the corner flag and Buffon punches it away well.
The Czechs had hardly anyone left in defence, but they had to go for the equaliser.
He beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper after Perrotta released him.
GOAL - it's all over for the Czechs. Inzaghi goes from the half-way line to score.
Nedved lofts the cross to the back post. Heinz reaches it, but is unable to get power on his header.
Room for Plasil to shoot - but his dipping half-volley is directed straight at Buffon.
A rather needlessly ambitious shot from Perrotta, blazed over the bar while there were three or four in the middle who were better-placed.
but he heads wide. Another real chance.
Pirlo chips forward for Perrotta, who returns it to Pirlo. He goes on a winding run, can't quite get through but it falls nicely for Inzaghi...
A Czech free kick near the left touchline. Nedved takes it, but he curls it into the keeper.
Long-range shot from Heinz, but it was so gentle and easy for Buffon.
And at the other end, Totti attempts to chip Cech again - and gets it just as wrong as he did before.
Nedved is crowded out on the edge of the Italy box.
Dreadful cross from Barone. Not an appropriate end to a decent move.
Now here come the Italians on the counter but Inzaghi, not for the first time in his career, is offside.
Here comes the change. The defender Kovac goes off and Heinz is on. They're throwing caution to the wind.
The Czechs are preparing to bring on Heinz, their third substitute.
Really poor shot from Totti, who miscues his effort from 25 yards. He's probably not fully fit at the moment.
It's almost desperation stakes for the Czechs. A man down, they need two goals, or they go out. It's as simple as that.
Italy's last change. Barone is the new man, Camoranesi the player going off.
Jarolim looks to find room to cross, but he can't. He's crowded out.
Gattuso will return, however. No damage was done.
Gattuso requires treatment after a collision. A stretcher is brought on, but it isn't required. To Czech boos, he limps off.
Totti looks to release Inzaghi on the counter-attack, but can only find Cech.
Nedved takes the corenr and Italy scramble it away. But the pressure is maintained when Camoranesi commits a foul.
Another superb effort from Nedved, latching on to Stajner's backheel to drill a shot Buffon parries really well.
A promising Italian counter-attack is ended by a poor Totti pass.
Jankulovski and Plasil combine, but the latter can't collect a pass and Buffon gathers instead.
A lucky break for Inzaghi - and he misses it. A clearance deflects into his path, he is in on goal... and sidefoots wide.
Cannavaro, in fine form, sees off Stajner at the other end.
Strong play from Gattuso and the chance comes the way of Totti, who strikes his half-volley well, but straight at Cech.
Italy are looking very comfortable but, that said, they needed a second goal against the USA and didn't get one.
Off goes Baros, who has worked really hard but isn't fully fit. Jarolim is the Czech sub.
And Camoranesi is unmarked, six yards out... and heads wide. What a chance, from Totti's corner.
Camoranesi crosses and Rozehnal clears for a corner.
Rosicky tries to inspire the Czechs, driving forward and looking for Baros. Materazzi intercepts.
Jankulovski whips in a cross, Baros jumps really well to win the header, but he can't keep it down.
Italy make theri second change with Gilardino coming off for Inzaghi.
Eventually, it comes to Nedved, but the excellent Cannavaro blocks his shot.
Fine chasing by Baros to reach a deep cross and keep the ball in play, but he can only go backwards thereafter.
Totti glides away from two and over-runs the ball, but he is starting to become a real influence against the 10 men.
Camoranesi ends an attack by fouling Rozehnal - the winger can't quite force his way through.
And with the Czechs down to 10, Italy are enjoying plenty of possession, paricularly in the midfield.
Totti and Camoranesi play the one-two, then the latter tries to force his way into the box and is penalised.
He volleys it and it's only just over. Fine move.
Totti will take it. The two centre backs are up, but he chips to Pirlo on the edge of the box, who plays it on to Cannavaro.
Totti chips over the top, Gilardino's behind the defence, but his touch lets him down. However, Jankulovski nudges him down on the edge of the box.
Totti finds Camoranesi, but he has little room to cross from and can only direct it at Cech.
The corner comes to nothing, the Czechs counter attack with the indefatigable Nedved. He's through on goal... but Buffon makes a great block from his shot.
Jankulovski's pass is misplaced, the Italians find Totti who gets power on his 25-yard shot. It's heading for the corner of the net, until Cech pushes it wide.
... and mis-judges his header. It is as well no Italian had read that. Instead, Gyrgera can tidy up.
And Italy break with Totti, who finds Gilardino. His cross is deep, Rozehnal tries to head back to Cech...
Nedved curls it in, but Camoranesi wins it well.
Grosso has to head Jankulovski's deep cross behind. A Czech corner.
Baros is unhappy not to get a free kick as Materazzi slides in on him.
Totti goes for the chip, but puts it straight at Cech. A shame - that was a fine move.
Grosso swtiches play to Pirlo, he comes forward and finds Totti, who is lining up a shot when he is halted.
Totti is behind it. He takes a long run-up, strikes it and it's some way wide.
Totti turns into trouble, but then Gattuso is fouled.
Cannavaro robs Baros - another fine tackle by the Italy captain.
It looks as though Baros is still alone up front but, though down to 10 men, his team-mates have to give him more support.
The Italians get the second half underway. The Czechs, meanwhile, have brought on Stajner for the veteran Poborsky - and that could be the last sight of him in international football.
And in the other game, Ghana now lead the USA 2-1. As it stands - 1 Italy, 2 Ghana, 3 Czech Rep, 4 USA.
That's half-time - and Italy are a goal and a man up
The Czechs are down to 10 - and once again, Italy are not playing against 11 men. It's a real uphill task for Bruckner's men now.
Polak is off! He tackles Totti from behind, gets a second yellow and is sent off.
Terrific tackle from Cannavaro as Baros tries to turn away from him.
Now Pirlo advances and he just can't quite slide in Gilardino.
Once again, the Italians are back in possesion with Totti, making a fifth midfielder, joining in the passing move.
Some hope for the Czechs - the USA have equalised in the other game in this group.
Italy are comfortable in possession in midfield until, uncharacteristically, Pirlo wastes a pass.
Gilardino evades his marker to chest down a long ball - but Cech is out quickly to gather.
Nedved leads the Czechs out of defence, picking out Baros with a ball down the touchline. But when he turns infield, he loses out to Cannavaro.
Totti takes, aiming for Camoranesi. Polak defended really well to bravely head away as the two players collided.
Grosso, found ahead of the midfield again, wins another corner with a cross deflected off Grygera.
Perrotta finds Totti, whose slide-rule ball is excellent for Gilardino - but Rozehnal does well to shepherd him out of the danger area.
Nedved on the turn finds room, and he is the inspiration for the Czechs today. They'll rely on him if they are to get anything.
Nedved powers forward again and his deflected shot should get the Czechs a corner. It's a goal kick.
Grygera's cross is too long for Baros, and he needed someone else in support there.
Fine defending from Nedved, robbing the ponderous Totti as he was about to shoot.
Booking, and it is Polak for a foul on Camoranesi, who slipped away from him.
Gilardino does really well to hold the ball up. With Totti dropping even further back, he has no support.
Grygera gets down the right, but Grosso heads away his cross. The Czech full-backs have to be adventurous now.
Gilardino is rather isolated alone in attack for Italy with four in midfield some way for him and Totti in no-man's land.
Nedved is responsible for the free kick. He lines it up for Poborsky, whose low drive is no threat for Buffon.
Nedved skips away from Gattuso who rather rugby tackles him to the ground. A yellow card is hte inevitable result.
The Czechs have big Koller on the bench. He's not fully fit, but is he worth a gamble?
And Lippi's formation - with four workers in midfield - will make it even harder for the Czechs to break them down.
And the Czechs need a remarkable turnaround now - nothing less than victory will suffice unless the USA can draw level with Ghana.
In terms of the group, it now stands: 1 Italy, 2 Ghana, 3 Czech Rep, 4 USA.
Frantic stuff in the Italian box as Rosicky, Baros and Plasil go in search of the equaliser. Goal kick.
It was Totti's corner and that's the advantage of bringing on a 6ft 4in centre back - no one could stop him
And Materazzi jumps highest to head the Italians into the lead
Gilardino gets inside Rozehnal and wins a corner
From the edge of the box, Gattuso meets Totti's cross with a firm header - and it lands on the roof of the net.
As things stand, the Czechs now need to win - and Ghana are top of the group.
Grygera slices his clearance from Grosso's cross, but the Czechs survive.
And in the other game in the group, Ghana lead. Bad news for the USA and the Czechs.
Rosicky breaks at the other end, he turns inside but can't find room to shoot.
Zambrotta gets forward, lofts his cross over Cech at the near post - but too deep for Gilardino.
Excellent stuff from Nedved, robbing Camoranesi and escaping him to set up an attack.
Pirlo spreads play to Grosso wide on the left. His cross is blocked.
Very competitive start, with the Czechs marginally the brighter. Both games in this group are 0-0, by the way.
A promising Italian move is ended by a handball by Perrotta.
Meanwhile, Poborsky's cross is easy for Buffon to gather.
Well, that could be the end of Nesta's World Cup and should Italy progress, they may be without their best defender.
Now the change can be made. Nesta off, Materazzi on in the centre of defence.
Here's a problem for the Italians. Nesta is struggling and Materazzi is ready to come on.
They are patient until Nedved shoots - and Buffon parries low down. Then Jankulovski goes for the follow-up and Buffon blocks again. Fine double save.
Italy, however, struggle to clear, and the Czechs have the ball in their opponents' half.
Nedved comes across to take on the left. He curls it in but Nesta rises highest.
Another long ball for Baros to chase. He holds off Baros and wins a corner.
Plasil makes the run forward in an attempt to support Baros, but he can't reach Jankulovski's pass.
Totti spreads play to Zambrotta, who then finds Camoranesi. His cross, however, is too deep.
Nedved has a first-time shot from 25 yards which Buffon holds low down at his near post.
A long ball from Grygera sails over the head of Baros, who is rather stranded by passes like that.
Terrific pass from Nedved sends Baros away, his first touch is poor but he can still squeeze a shot in. Buffon blocks his effort with his legs.
Now Baros attacks on the counter and Perrotta, the last man, has to hack clear.
Totti takes and Rozehnal wins the header against Cannavaro.
Now Grosso gets forward to win a corner. The left back has been very attacking so far.
Camoranesi, who has started wide on the left, comes infield and gets a free kick.
Fine run by Grosso, who makes himself room to cross. It takes a good header from Rozehnal to stop it reaching Totti.
Baros is found in the box by Plasil but, for the third time, the free kick goes against the striker.
Totti takes, but it's poor and cleared. Only as far as Totti, however, whose second centre is just as bad.
Gattuso is brought down, giving the Italians a free kick on the right wing.
Poborsky takes and it is headed away by Camoranesi. The Czech gets a second chance to cross, but Italy survive.
The Czechs are positive and get a corner, conceded by Cannavaro.
But Baros is penalised again on the edge of the Italian box. he is alone up front with Nedved and Rosicky in support.
Nedved is unceremoniously upended by Nesta and the Czech goes flying. It could have been a booking, but isn't.
First advance down the right by Zambrotta, who has swapped flanks to take Zaccardo's place.
Straight away Baros backs into Cannavaro and the free kick goes Italy's way.
The Czechs get the game started with Baros - and it will be interesting to see how fit he is.
Right, the equation is simple. Well, almost. A draw would guarantee Italy a place in the last 16. The Czechs need a win to be sure. And positions also depend on the match between the USA and Ghana.
The national anthems are over, and the players are ready for go.
Interesting team news - the Czechs rush back Baros. Italy, without the banned de Rossi, drop striker Toni and pick four in midfield. Error-prone right back Zaccardo is omitted.
