Waldstadion, Frankfurt, Germany
That's your lot folks. Brazil quite rightly win the 2005 Confederations Cup to go along with their World and South American Cups, the greedy devils. (If they win the World Cup again next year does that make it four out of four, or is it the first out of a new three? )Anyroad, they remain favorites to lift the trophy again in Germany next summer on this showing. Brazil, we salute you.
Tevez gives a great ball in to the area and Brazil forced to concede a corner.
Coloccini has practically assaulted Adriano by raising his arms. He did that in the last game too and really is lucky to even be playing tonight.
Robihno streaking forward finds Ronaldinno who hits it to Renato and his cross cum shot is nearly prodded home by the out-stretched boot of Adriano. Excellent play.
A fantastic little chipped ball from Ronaldihno in to the box is not done justice by Maicon's finish in to the side-netting.
Argentina continue to press this late on in the game but can't find a way through. When they do, Dida is in the way.
Cicinho off for Maicon.
Kaka off and Renato on.
Dida beats away a Tevez drive after the latter holds off the not inconsiderable presence of Roque Junior. TEvez has looked a threat since he came on.
Aimar tries a little ball through the middle but Lucio gets it back to Dida safely.
Marvellous save from Dida after a great take and a bouncing shot from Sorin. From the corner the referee has made another bad error by giving Brazil a free kick after Dida sent Sorin flying in the six yard box. Duh!
Ronaldinho's free kick is nearly knocked in by Lucio at the far post. He deserves a goal tonight.
Coloccini misses a cross field ball he should have intercepted and compounds his mistake by downing Adriano in a dangerous area. Well played sir!
Adriano brings a good diving save from Lux and the Argentine defence get the ball away.
Another good intervention from Lucio at the back. They have played well all over the pitch tonight although to be fair Argentina have done little in this half. Perhaps the extra time and penalties in their previous match against Mexico has taken its toll.
Tevez under pressure from Roque Junior who makes a very good tackle on the new arrival.
Robinho needlessly fouled by Aimar and the Valencia man is rightly booked.
Figueroa is off and Carlos Tevez is on.
Another useful cross from Delgado on the right but Argentina fail to make contact with his delivery.
Lucio wins the ball, gives it to Ronaldinho who threads it on to Kaka but Lux comes out to clear.
Riquelme fires a twenty yarder straight at Dida.
Robinho is still running at them. They want more! Referee should have blown up for a free kick onthe edge of the area. The refs have been rubbish in this tournament.
The smallest man on the pitch, Aimar, has headed in a great cross from Zanetti. Comeback? Nah, but it is now officially the highest ever scoring Confederations Cup. Sweet.
A twenty pass Brazilian move ends with another goal for Adriano as he powers home a header from a Cicinho cross. They're not bad really are they?
Brazil are threading some wonderful passes together on what must be an extremely heavy pitch. This is very, very sexy. In fact, excuse me for a litlte bit.
Figueroa breasts the ball down near the Brazil penalty area but Roque Junior clears.
Colocini has a little go at Adriano's heels. I saw that you!
It's like Wimbledon this. Straight back up the other end and now Figueroa goes close for the men in blue and white.
Yowzah! The wee man from Santos Robihno rattles the bar after a litlte bit of magic. Arsene will be impressed.
Riquelme mis-hits a shot which nearly sets up Sorin.
The aforementioned Aimar is disposessed nicely by Lucio.
Pablo Aimar is on. Told you.
Adrinao just fails top reach a cross in to the box and Argentina are lucky to not be five or six down. Brazil are all over them.
Bernardi brings down Robinho. Free kick to Brazil. Ronaldinho shoots from twenty five yards out but it is gathered by Lux.
Ronaldinho tees up Kaka who brings a rather unorthodox save from Mr Lux. Lux has not convinced in this tournament.
Figueroa heads down to Coloccini and he blasts wide from five yards when he should have at least hit the target. Maybe his flowing locks got in the way.
Another attack from Brazil and Zanetti concedes a corner when maybe a penalty should have been given for a tackle from behind. Lux then punches poorly and finally Argentina clear for another corner. Emerson knocks the resultant ball wide for a goal kick.
Kaka spreads it to Cicinho and the right-back drifts past Placente to put in a great cross from which Ronaldinho fires home from close range. Game over. The Brazilian players can now start thinking about their holidays.
No substitutions as the second half gets underway in a sodden Frankfurt.
A good first half with Brazil's extra flair up front giving them the edge, Kaka and Adriano contributing two sublime goals. Argentina have huffed and puffed but out and out chances have been few for them. Perhaps some changes to come for them at half-time with Pablo Aimar a possibility?
Good inter-play between Sorin and Zanetti in Brazilian area and the Inter man hits the sidenetting.
Lucio at the other end now and gets on the end of Ronaldinho's free kick. A speculative overhead kick is attempted but doesn't come off. Nice idea though.
Kaka tries his luck from range again and Lux does not look too clever as he stops it. A fumbled take but he gathers at the second attempt.
Delgado crosses in to the Brazilian penalty box and Lucio intercepts. The Bayern Munich man is playing very well.
Cambiasso booked for a foul and Sorin, for whom the word 'combative' could have been invented, is lucky not to receive the same punishment as he lunges into Kaka.
Argentina fail once again to take advantage from a corner and Brazil get rid.
Sorin now attempts a long range effort and goes close. Dida knocks it over for a corner.
Another dive just from Zanetti. Not quite as outrageous as Sorin's effort though and he escapes censure.
Sorin is booked for a dive in the Brazilian penalty area. He's smiling as he's booked. He knows. Naughty Sorin!
Heinze shepherds the ball back to Lux under pressure from Robinho.
It is raining very, very hard in Germany. Not sure that favours either of these two teams really.
Cicinho leads the yellow wave up the pitch once more. One of the players of this tournament for me, and the obvious heir apparent to Cafu. Argentina crowd the Sau Paulo man out.
Corner to Argentina now and Riquelme's effort is again cleared by Ronaldihno. Argentina's subsequent ball in is safely collected by Dida.
Nice skills from the Brazilians and Robihno shows a little trick but alas it comes to nought as he cedes possession.
Argentina have had more of the possession but their attacks are foundering on the Brazilian backline.
Ze Roberto makes a crucial intervention at the other end and his clearance prompts a Brazilian attack which breaks down. In fact, it wasn't even worth mentioning.
Robinho fouled by Coloccini and Ronaldinho fires in the free kick. Headed away by Coloccini.
Brazil race up the park and Bernardi makes a wonderful tackle on Ronaldihno.
Nearly an own goal from Heinze as he makes a bungled headed clearance from Ronaldinho's free kick.
Despite the scoreline, Argentina are playing reasonably well and Riquelme tries to build from the edge of the Brazilian 18 yard line. Brazil clear once more.
"Anything you can do I can do (almost) better" says Kaka. A lovely turn from the AC Milan man and a shot from the edge of the Argentina penalty area sees Lux beaten again. Great stuff.
Argentina spread the ball about over the middle of the park and try to edge their way up the park. Riquelme hits a twenty yard effort just wide of the Dida's left post. Unlucky.
Adriano has scored an absoute corker, not his first of the tournament either. He beats two defenders and smacks an unstoppable long range effort in to Lux's right hand corner.
Ronaldinho's lofted ball in to the area is knocked back in to the six yard box by Adriano but Argentina hoof it away.
Robinho is fouled by Cambiasso at the other end and a free kick is given in a dangerous area.
Argentina on the attack but the move breaks down and Brazil clear.
Argentina have a free kick played in by Riquelme and Lucio conccedes the first corner of the game.
Ronaldihno threads the ball out to Robinho on the left but the move breaks down on the edge of Argentina's penalty area.
And we're off. Brazil attack from left to right and Argentina immediately concede a foul.
Hopefully a South American hors d'oeuvre awaits us (or leastways me) tonight before the main fusion feast of football is served in Germany next summer.
Carlos Parreira restores Cicinho to full back for Brazil with Maicon dropping to the bench.
Argentine coach Jose Pekerman makes three changes from the team which beat Mexico on penalties. Diego Placente is brought into defence, Lucas Bernardi is preferred to Mario Santana in the midfield and Cesar Delgado replaces the suspended Saviola.
The seventh Confederations Cup throws up the final most neutrals were hoping for. Will Brazil gain a measure of revenge for their recent defeat in the Wolrd Cup qualifiers, or will Argentina get one over on their conquerors from last year's Copa America final?
