FULL TIME - a good game of football ends all square and that is a flattering scoreline for City. Twice they went behind but twice Liverpool gifted them an equaliser. The champions hung in there while Liverpool looked very promising.
Suarez booked for dissent. What a surprise. Totally unnecessary.
The corner is cleared to Tevez but his volley flies wide. Difficult one to execute.
Kolarov's shot is deflected behind by Gerrard. Corner.
Poor from Suarez as Liverpool broke. Carroll was free at the back stick but he smashed it at Kolarov then claimed handball.
Four minutes added...
Chances. Suarez's volley is right at Kolarov then his cross finds Carroll at the back post but his header is nodded away by Rodwell two yards from goal.
The corner falls to Shelvey who tries a curler. Kolo Toure nods it over the bar.
Sterling still busy for the home side. He wins a corner.
Fine move from City as Tevez spreads it wide for Kolarov and his low cross is flicked over by Dzeko from seven yards.
Good cross from Gerrard looking for Carroll but Kompany clears. Then Silva is ice cool in his own box under pressure from Suarez.
It's Carroll time - Borini departs. Big roar for the big man.
Super strike from Shelvey as Liverpool regroup. It was fiercely struck but just flashed over the bar.
Liverpool have played so well today but they've been undone by two big defensive errors. City have been gifted two goals.
GOAL Tevez equalises! A howler from Skrtel, he didn't look as he played it back to Reina. Tevez was there, danced round the keeper and stuck it home.
Borini is late on Yaya but the ref didn't see it. The big man is up.
Excellent defending from Skrtel as Dzeko crossed. A hooked clearance facing his own goal.
Good ball into Dzeko from Yaya Toure but though the striker turns well his left footed effort is woeful. High and not so mighty.
Milner goes off, David Silva comes on.
Borini works hard to win the ball off Rodwell and Gerrard nearly sends Suarez in on goal. Liverpool playing very well.
Kolarov slid in from behind and looked like he caught Johnson's leg but then Kolo Toure got the ball. Marriner waved it away.
Johnson gets into the area and claims a penalty. Big call from the referee. He got a shot off but it was blocked by two City shirts.
Good stat from Opta: Man City have conceded 2+ goals for three Premier League games in succession for the first time since October 2010.
So, can City clamber back into the game a second time? Still struggling to put Liverpool under any pressure.
A really good chance to kill the game as Borini again goes down the right in space and looks for Suarez but Kompany is across to clear.
City were level for a total of 181 seconds...
A harsh free kick in the first place but a lovely strike from Suarez. Round the wall and leaving Hart with no chance.
GOAL Suarez squeezes the free kick home! To the near post, Hart unsighted, super goal.
Kelly trots off and Jose Enrique comes on. Johnson to right back I think.
Rodwell adjudged to have blocked Gerrard's shot with his arm - it flicked off his knee. Harsh. Free kick 30 yards out to the right of centre.
Out of nothing a goal. Hard on Liverpool, who have been very good, but Reina has to take the blame for that one. Totally missed the cross.
GOAL Yaya Toure pounces! Tevez's cross is missed by Reina, it cannons off Kelly and Toure sweeps it home.
Balotelli removed, Dzeko comes on.
First decent move from City this half as Tevez slips in Milner but the linesman has his flag up. The same assistant that was shoved by Alan Pardew last week in fact.
Presumably now Yaya Toure pushes further forward.
First City change, Nasri off and Rodwell on.
Very nearly a calamity for City at the back as Balotelli gets in the way of a Kompany clearance and the ball nearly falls for Sterling.
City not causing any problems in this second half. Expect changes soon.
Balotelli wants a free kick for a bump by Coates but he made a meal of it. Now he wins a corner off Kelly.
A long ball back to Hart from Kolarov - very risky but City play their way out nicely.
He's trotting off for more treatment. Jordan Henderson warming up.
Shelvey is down injured and City kick the ball out of play.
Allen gives the ball away for the first time in the match. Must do better.
A glorious chance spurned by Suarez as Borini breaks free and slides in a pass, the Uruguayan is only 15 yards out but can only poke it wide of the far post.
Sterling battles with Kolo Toure down the left and seems to be nudged off the ball but the free kick goes to City. Baffling.
Kolartov's free kick is too strong and floats out of play. A waste.
We're off again...
In case you missed it, Stoke and Arsenal drew 0-0 at the Britannia earlier. Here's our match report.
Joe Allen made 21 passes in that opening half and completed all 21 of them. Tidy.
Martin Skrtel thunders a header into the net
HALF TIME - Skrtel blocks a Nasri shot as Kolarov's free kick is deflected and that is the interval. Liverpool deservedly ahead. City nowhere near their best.
Sterling barges Balotelli off the ball, more of a tug really. Chance for City to get good ball into the box.
No problems for the home side from corners yet - another one cleared with ease.
Poor delivery from Kolarov. Liverpool marking zonally from the corner. That old chestnut.
Good run from Tevez but a poor pass at the end of it. Johnson got there ahead of Milner. Corner.
Suarez has a go after a nice disguised pass from Allen. A curler towards the far top corner but overhit ever so slightly.
Another enterprising run from Sterling comes to an end. Liverpool's fans wanted a foul but Andre Marriner not moved.
Very impressed with Liverpool so far. Brendan Rodgers loved the Skrtel goal - lapped it up. Good to see.
No let up from Liverpool. Still pressing hard even after the goal.
Liverpool deserve that too, they've been pressing hard for 15 minutes now. How will City react?
GOAL Skrtel nods home! What a header - he powered into that from Gerrard's corner and Hart didn't stand a chance.
A scare for City as Gerrard's powerful cross is shanked by Kompany. It beats Hart and flies just over the bar.
Balotelli twists and turns inside the area but blazes over with his left foot. Before that Suarez wanted a foul for a strong challenge.
Shelvey penalised this time for snapping at Yaya Toure. Liverpool pressing high.
Lovely first time pass from Gerrard finds Suarez inside the area but Toure again does very well to stand him up and pinch the ball.
Nice ball into Allen, he turns and shoots but Kolo Toure gets a vital block in. Noise levels rise.
Johnson slides in hard on Milner and wins the ball but a free kick is given. Ugly tackle but a ball winning one.
Nasri's free kick is a cross to the back stick and Reina flaps at it without making contact.
Awful pass from De Jong. Decent enough game as Balotelli mugs Kelly then wins a free kick off him.
Now good defending from Kolo Toure as Suarez runs onto Sterling's flick.
Liverpool's passing hasn't quite clicked into gear yet.
Kolo Toure comes forward and has a pop. It hits Skrtel and City's fans scream for a penalty but the ref is unmoved.
Two City players just stood and watched Tevez's effort hit the post. Balotelli and Milner. Should have followed up.
Tevez hits the post! A superb ball into the area from Nasri, Tevez takes it past Reina but is close to the byline - his effort trickles along the goalline and is cleared after hitting the post.
Superb cross from Sterling and Borini steals inside Kolarov and fires wide on the volley. Tough chance but a good chance.
Allen wins a free kick off Tevez.
Another waste from Suarez as he tries to nutmeg Kolarov inside the area. The ball goes through the defender's legs but is then gathered by Hart.
Tevez steps past Coates and crosses but it is too strong for Balotelli or Milner.
Red nets at Anfield. Just so you know.
A very poor pass from Suarez as Borini entered the penalty area alongside him.
Milner beats Johnson twice and crosses but Reina is alert and claims at his near post.
Lovely touch from Sterling after a good long ball from Coates. Just overran the ball a little and eventually, Allen aims to find Sterling in the area but hits it right at Kolarov.
Kolarov's has a pop from the free kick and it bounces in front of Reina but he holds firm.
Balotelli does very well to turn Skrtel as a long ball came up to him. Should be a card here, though there was cover. Actually, no card shown. Odd.
Rodgers furiously scribbling notes already.
Good ebb and flow to the game already. Balotelli feeds Nasri but Johnson clears.
Lucas limps off and Shelvey is on in his place.
Lovely dummy from Tevez and Nasri returns the ball but Kelly guards the ball well.
Lucas has pulled a muscle and is going to be off soon. Another Gerrard effort flies wide. He's finding his range.
An early effort from Gerrard as he skews a shot wide. Not up to his usual standards.
A home Premier League debut for Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager of course, and it doesn't get much tougher than this. They need to get something out of this game after last week's WBA mauling.
Interesting that Lescott has been dropped for Kolo Toure. David Silva is still not 100% after his exertions at the Euros.
So, a big day for 17-year-old Rahim Sterling, thrown in for his full Premier League debut against the champions. I wonder how Andy Carroll feels about it?
Good stat that. Thirty seven miles separate these two teams geographically, and 37 points separated them last season. Pointless, yes, but interesting.
Man City team: Hart, Kolo Toure, Kompany, Zabaleta, Milner, Kolarov, De Jong, Yaya Toure, Nasri, Balotelli, Tevez
Liverpool team: Reina, Kelly, Johnson, Coates, Skrtel, Lucas, Allen, Gerrard, Borini, Suarez, Sterling.
