Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette says his two-goal display against Germany on Wednesday was his best performance yet for France and hopes it will leave a lasting impression on coach Didier Deschamps.
Lacazette, who started in attack ahead of Antoine Griezmann, stole the show in Cologne, scoring his second and third goals on his 16th international appearance as France claimed a 2-2 draw.
The 26-year-old, who has scored six Premier League goals for Arsenal since leaving Lyon in the summer, told media after the game: "It's my best match for France, there's no debate about that.
"The coach told me it was good."
Lacazette was replaced by Griezmann 15 minutes from time and said: "When he brought me off, he made a little joke that will stay between us. Other than that, he congratulated me.
"It's encouraging, it's good. It's one of the first matches in which I was really a centre-forward, which is my position, in a big game. Of course I'm happy."
Lacazette, who started alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe and Manchester United's Anthony Martial in Didier Deschamps' attack, faces fierce competition for a starting spot at the World Cup, with Griezmann and clubmate Olivier Giroud among his rivals.
He hopes his brace will stand him in good stead ahead of the next round of international fixtures in March, saying: "There's going to be a long period without a France game now.
"You could say I've left the coach with a good memory."
