TEAM OF THE SEASON - 2008

GOALKEEPERS: Chicago's Jon Busch and Columbus' Will Hesmer were both under-the-radar goalkeepers before the start of the season that trumped bigger names such as New England's Matt Reis and Houston's Pat Onstad in the fantasy ratings. Both keepers ranked in the league's top three for goals against average, with Busch registering a 1.10 GAA and Hesmer a 1.14 GAA.

DEFENDERS: If you selected the Wizards's dynamic duo of Jimmy Conrad and Jack Jewsbury you were in luck. In addition to helping Kansas City's back line concede only 39 goals on the season (only four teams conceded fewer), both notched their fair share of goals. In fact, Conrad scored six times to finish second on the Wizards in that category. Another fantasy standout was Chad Marshall, who had a superb season for the Crew, helping Columbus to the best regular-season record.

MIDFIELDERS: No surprises as to who the top performing midfielder was in fantasy this year. The Crew's Guillermo Barros Schelotto shone as the Crew's playmaker notching 134 fantasy points on the season, with a league-leading 19 assists. Schelotto narrowly missed becoming only the second player in MLS history to reach 20 in a single season.

Another Argentinean midfielder, RSL's Javier Morales finished second only to Schelotto both in fantasy points and assists (15 on the season).

The other big surprise was the form of New York's Dave van den Bergh, who turned in a stellar season with seven goals and five assists. Coming into the season there had been questions as to whether or not Van den Bergh would be retained by new coach Juan Carlos Osorio, but he delivered all season long.

STRIKERS: The Galaxy may have been easily the most disappointing team of the year, but their twin strikeforce of Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle were fantasy superstars. The two combined for 35 goals (Donovan had 20) and were ranked No. 1 and No. 3 respectively among all strikers. Sitting in second was FC Dallas' Kenny Cooper who seemingly carried the Hoops' offense at times with 18 goals and three assists.
