Premier Showdown - Aug 16/17

August 17, 2008

Premier Showdown is back for another season - and we've picked out our first challenger of the new campaign.

Dale Johnson cruised to victory last season, finishing ahead of Tommy Smyth by a whopping 25.5 points - that's more than the other two combined! It was a sorry, sorry season for former champions the Rest of the World who went home with the wooden spoon.

A new season means a clean slate with all three competitors staring level pegging. Can you help the ROTW get off to a good start?

We're welcoming Brandon McLean. He tells Soccernet: 'I come from the small islands of the Cayman Islands. There is only about 53,000 people living here. I have been a die hard Manchester United fan all my life and all I do is play football, watch football and keep up to date on all football news.

'My friends and family get annoyed about how much I go on about football even though my twin brother loves football almost as much as me.

'I think younger players should be given more of a chance in the teams and alot of the teams are doing that but they still need to do more.

'I am 17-years-old, as I said I am a twin, I'm starting my last year of high school, and I am not sure what i am going to do after I get out of school, but I know I will go to college.'

Let battle commence!

Each week one of our readers has the chance to challenge our two experts.

Soccernet's Premier League Editor, Dale Johnson, and ESPNsoccernet Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the test.

They, along with the challenger, cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared between those level on points.
