Premier Showdown - Aug 14/15

August 15, 2007

Tommy Smyth got his Premier Showdown campaign off the the perfect start, in Manchester City style, as he confounded the critics to record a victory over Dale Johnson and Ian Johnston.

It means Tommy has continued his good work from the end of last season - but does he now have what it takes to challenge for the title?

Representing the Rest of the World in the midweek round of games is Haraldur Vrn Haraldsson.

Haraldsson is from Iceland but has been living abroad for the last six years studying - currently finishing his Masters in Advanced Computer Graphics in Linkvping, Sweden.

He tells us: 'I am 31 years old and I play football for a local club here, which is not Premier league, but I guess I wouldn't get much playing time if it was!

'I have been a Tottenham supporter all my life - and my older brother as well. We Spurs fans have had our ups and downs which we maybe are used to by now, but I hope after the last two fifth place finishes in the league that the rollercoaster ride is finally over, or I will have to return to playing Spurs myself in Pro Evol. Soccer on my PS2... again....

'Let's get it on!'

Let's indeed!

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, has the chance to challenge our two experts.

Soccernet's Premier League Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the test.

They, along with the challenger, cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared between those level on points.
