Premier Showdown - Feb 3/4

February 4, 2007

Another victory for the Rest of the World in midweek keeps our challengers hot on Dale Johnson's tail. Just when it seems Dale is going to edge into a commanding lead the ROTW keep pulling it out of the bag.

We're welcoming back a former contestant for this weekend's games - a certain Wayne Hussey.

For you philistines who are unaware of Wayne, he was originally in the Sisters of Mercy in the mid-1980s before forming The Mission with bassist Craig Adams. The Mission - Wayne is both on vocals and plays guitar - are still going strong and will shortly be releasing a new album and going on tour.

He's had to come back for more - he can't just Walk Away.

Wayne, who lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil, tells us: 'I came up against Dale and Tommy the season before last, I believe, and failed miserably but I'm a lifelong Liverpool supporter and we're on a good run so I fancy my chances again.....

'I have just written a new song for our next album (available in April) that celebrates LFC's 25/05/05 CL victory entitled 'Draped In Red'. I think we've left it a little late to really challenge for Premiership this season but I do think we're gonna scare United and Chelsea and run 'em all the way....

'No, the only trophy we're gonna pick up this season is the Champions League again... I forecast a Liverpool versus Arsenal final... and we'll pick up our sixth!'

Dale's determined to meter out God's Own Medicine while Tommy is adamant he'll be a Tower of Strength despite his poor tally.

Now we've had the Deliverance of Wayne's selections we can play!

• You can check out The Mission's official website here

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.

Victory for Wayne! It was an epic battle in which both Dale and our ROTW contestant recorded three correct scorelines - but it was Wayne who was on, ahem, a Mission to make sure the three points headed his way.

Score after 26 rounds:
Dale: 35.5
Rest of the World: 32.5
Tommy: 10

You can tune in to ESPNSoccernet Press Pass every Friday to see the picks revealed, and the previous week's results analysed. They will also be displayed here at Soccernet.
