Premier Showdown - Sept 16/17

September 17, 2006

Well, it's been just like old times for Dale Johnson this season as he's recorded three victories in the opening four round of the competition.

There has been little answer from Tommy Smyth or our Rest of the World team. They couldn't even match Dale's distinctly average score of six last weekend. But things have to change, this won't go on forever!

Joining the battle this weekend is Errol Howlett who is from Kingston, Jamaica.

Errol, a liverpool fan, is an accountant working at a PR and advertising agency. He is currently the treasurer for a community team, Allman/Woodford, which is in the third division in the Kingston & St Andrew league. They came fourth last season and just missed out on promotion.

Let's play!

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline

  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.

The Rest of the World team won the crown back from Dale last season, the final standings being as follows:

    Rest of the World: 46.5
    Dale: 39
    Tommy: 28.5

Stunned would be an understatement. Both Tommy and Errol fail to get ONE result correct and both finish with zero! Somehow Dale makes it four wins out of five with a grand total of three points. Maybe everyone should just give up...

    Score after five rounds:
    Dale: 12
    Rest of the World: 3
    Tommy: 0
