Premier Showdown - Jan 14/15

January 15, 2006

The start of a new year and perhaps a new beginning for Tommy after a horror run in our fabulous Premiership predictions game.

Following on from the draw he picked up over Christmas, Tommy stormed to victory in the last round of games. In fact, had his form held through the round he might even have walked away with this season's PB! Amazing!

However, there's much work to do if Tommy is to claw back the deficit to the Rest of the World team...

Our challenger for this week's games is Nick Hill who resides in the picturesque town of Middlesbrough, in the north-east of England of course.

Nick, 30, is, for his considerable sins, a season ticket holder at the Riverside and goes to to every away games as well. Well, someone has to!

He is a solicitor, a very grand job title for this competition it has to be said, at a company called Williamson Hill in Middlesbrough town centre.

And to sign off he cries: 'Come on, Boro.' Indeed... indeed... I'm sure I caught Nick looking over his shoulder with a worried expression on his face...

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:

  • Three points for a correct result and scoreline
  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.

Nick may have finished as the weekend's winner, but there's very little to celebrate it what must be the lowest points total to ever win a round! Shame, oh the shame. Cumulative points of 13 out of a possible 90... simple shocking...

    Overall score after 22 rounds:
    Dale: 28.5
    Rest of the World: 24
    Tommy: 13.5

You can tune in to ESPNSoccernet Press Pass every Friday to see the picks revealed, and the previous week's results analysed. They will also be displayed here at Soccernet.
