Football fans witnessed Chelsea's dramatic UEFA Champions League in an HD telecast for the first time in Malaysia courtesy of the Heineken Legendary Night.
Didier Drogba's decisive penalty won the shootout for the Blues, who beat Bayern Munich after a dramatic 1-1 draw on Saturday. Chelsea took home thier first Champions League title, four years after losing in a similar fashion to Manchester United.
In an exclusive event hosted by Heineken at GSC Signature cineplex at The Gardens, fans were transported to the excitement live from the Allianz Arena in Munich. Aptly called the Heineken Legendary Night, the event was part of Heineken's 'Legendary Football' campaign for the UEFA Champions League 2012 Final in Munich.
The campaign received an overwhelming response where thousands of football fans participated in the Legendary Night app game in Heineken's Facebook page of which only 400 lucky winners won the exclusive invite to the event. One of the privileged winners and a Chelsea fan, Victor Lee enthused, "What a dramatic shootout and I got the best seat in town. Thank you Heineken for another legendary night!"
On top of that, Heineken also rewarded the ultimate football fan's dream to three Malaysians who participated in a promotion held at Heineken outlets nationwide. Tey Ghee Foo, Tan Eng Heng and Leong Chee Ping all received an all expenses paid trip to watch the 2012 UEFA Champions League Final in Munich, Germany.
"As a long-term partner of the UCL, Heineken is thrilled to be the first in Malaysia to bring this unique cinematic football viewing experience to our football fans. Our ultimate goal is to deliver a unique fan experience beyond just the 90 minutes of the game, and we believe we have achieved this," said Loh Ee Lin, Brand Manager of Heineken Malaysia.
The Heineken Legendary Night event transformed GSC Signature cineplex into a stadium-like atmosphere which kicked off with a reception before the final match. DJ Blastique together with Heineken Found @ Thirst DJ Search 2011 finalist, DJ Darling Sabrina and electric violinist, Genervie Kam provided the entertainment while guests challenged themselves to interactive games like foosball and penalty shoot out playoffs to score exclusive Heineken merchandise.
Since becoming a proud partner seven years ago, Heineken has recently renewed its sponsorship of the UCL for a further three years through the end of year 2014/15 – raising the stakes even higher with a fully integrated initiative worldwide.
