Premier Showdown - March 17-21

March 21, 2012

Tommy Smyth might have had to settle for a late draw two rounds ago due to a late goal, but on Monday night it was his turn for last-ditch joy.

Tommy could be seen running around ESPN Towers in Bristol in wild celebration as Thomas Vermaelen's 95th minute goal turned a win for the Rest of the World into a win for himself! Amazing scenes!

So now the table is looking extremely tight and anyone could win. That said, the ROTW have now not had an outright win for almost three months - that being the round which ended on December 22.

But Tommy, our reigning champion, has produced an amazing comeback. He did not score a single point until Halloween (no jokes) but is now right back in the hunt to keep his crown.

Looking to get the ROTW back level with Dale Johnson at the top of the tree in this elongated round is Dave Ody who is originally from Crawley, south of London, and is currently holidaying in Dubai.

Dave tells us: "I'm was bored, soaking up the 88 degree heat and looking for things to do, when I stumbled on a Dale Johnson retweet for these predictions. The only unfortunate thing is I'm having to do it on my own time and not work's!

"Lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan from the first game I ever went to in 1983 when my dad and brother took me to see Fulham at Hillsborough, since that day I've been the blue and white sheep of the family. Through all the good times and the bad ... Apologies for the spelling, I'm using an iPhone."

Let's see those predictions!

For each round of matches we invite someone to represent the Rest of the World and take on Press Pass' Tommy Smyth and ESPNsoccernet journalist Dale Johnson in our predictions game.

Points are then awarded as follows:
• Three points for a correct result and scoreline
• One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the Showdown result has been worked out, the winning pundit receives three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total is added to the Rest of the World tally. In the case of a draw, the points are shared.

A woefully low-scoring round of Showdown sees Dave secure a win for the Rest of the World three months to the day since they last took all three points!

Table after Round 29
Dale: 31
Rest of the World: 31
Tommy: 25

Best week's total of season: 13, Dale Johnson

Final table 2010-11
Tommy: 46.5
Dale: 45
Rest of the World: 22.5

Best week's total of season: 13, Tommy Smyth (from eight fixtures).
