MLS journeyman and former FC Dallas striker Carlos "El Pescadito" Ruiz has confirmed he's returning to Dallas.

Ruiz, who turned 37 on Thursday, made the announcement via his Snapchat, posting a picture of the stadium captioned: "So happy to be back."

The club confirmed the news via Twitter and announced the signing later on Thursday, hours before the league freezes rosters ahead of the playoffs.

The Guatemala international has not played in MLS since 2013 with D.C. United. In his 10-year MLS career, he has scored 88 regular-season goals, ranking him tied for 10th in league history with Roy Lassiter.

He scored five goals earlier this month for Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier against St. and the Grenadines, his final match before retiring from international duty.

FC Dallas defeated New England on Tuesday 4-2 to win the U.S. Open Cup final.

The club was without a replacement for Fabian Castillo, who last month completed a loan to Turkish side Trabzonspor until the end of 2016.

Because Castillo's move went through on the last day of the MLS transfer window, Dallas was left unable to bring in another player currently under contract with another club.

In a similar move, Landon Donovan came out of retirement last week to rejoin the injury-riddled LA Galaxy for the rest of the MLS season.
