Everton's Ramiro Funes Mori joins Seamus Coleman on sidelines

Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori is the club's latest injury worry after being carried off during Argentina's 2-0 defeat against Bolivia on Tuesday evening.

Funes Mori was shown holding his left knee as he left the pitch after only 36 minutes and joins Seamus Coleman on the sidelines after he suffered a double leg fracture during the Republic of Ireland's draw with Wales last Friday.

Midfielder James McCarthy, meanwhile, did not even make it to kick-off in Dublin after aggravating a hamstring problem in the warm-up.

Funes Mori has made 26 appearances for Everton this season, but lost his place to Phil Jagielka for the last two Premier League matches against West Brom and Hull.

The injuries are particularly bad timing for boss Ronald Koeman, with a run of nine wins from 15 games drawing them level on 50 points with sixth-placed Arsenal.

Everton return to league action on Sunday in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Coleman is expected to take the first steps on the road to his recovery when he leaves hospital on Wednesday with manager Martin O'Neill having found him in good spirits when he visited him on Tuesday.

O'Neill said: "Seamus is doing much better today. I went to see him again. He's in better spirits.

"It's as much to do with he's still got the family around -- his brother, his wife, his mother and the youngster all keeping him pretty busy. I think he's doing much better now. It's not something you're going to get over in 24 hours, 36 hours. He's in much better spirits.

"He's getting out tomorrow, I think. It's encouraging to see. He's very positive, which I knew he would be. It's a tough injury. Could he get over it? If anybody can quickly, then Seamus can do that."
