Italy's Antonio Candreva a doubt for Ireland game with hamstring injury

Italy midfielder Antonio Candreva is struggling with a hamstring injury ahead of the Azzurri's final group game against Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

Candreva, 29, played the full 90 minutes in both of Italy's opening group games as Antonio Conte's side beat Belgium 2-0 and Sweden 1-0.

However, the Lazio midfielder and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon both sat out training on Saturday having picked up knocks.

And Candreva will continue to be assessed by Italy's medical staff after undergoing initial tests on a hamstring problem.

The Azzurri are already guaranteed to progress from Group E into the round of 16, so Candreva -- who has been impressive on the right flank in Italy's 3-5-2 formation -- is likely to be rested for the game against Ireland in Lille.

Fiorentina youngster Federico Bernardeschi is in line to replace Candreva on the right flank should he be unavailable.
