Something of a journeyman professional who has stumbled across full international status late in his career, Fotakis earned his first call-up to the senior Greece side in 2009, when he was already edging towards the veteran category at club level.
PAOK and Egaleo gave him his first chances in the professional ranks before he earned a move to Kilmarnock, but he failed to make an impact with the Scottish Premier League side. After a spell back home with Larissa, he returned to PAOK and he has been a regular in their first team in the run-up to Euro 2012.
A fringe player in the qualifying campaign for this tournament, he played only two games for coach Fernando Santos, but he managed to make a huge contribution by scoring an equaliser in a game at Georgia last October. Greece went on to win that tie as they edged Croatia out of top spot in their qualifying pool.
