Something of a latecomer to the Euro 2012 party, Ukraine coach Oleh Blokhin handed Selin his first senior international cap in the game against Bulgaria and he impressed by scoring as one of the hosts of this summer’s football festival ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
Playing for one of the less familiar names in Ukrainian football has not halted his international ambitions and coach Blokhin was full of praise for his new man when he weighed up his options for a final 23-man squad this summer.
“I have said many times that big names or players at big clubs do not have any right to expect a place in this squad and players like Selin show that we have an open mind to everyone,” says the experienced coach. “We have given some guys a chance in the warm-up games and the ones who have taken their chance will be come with us this summer. I will not pick players on reputations.”
