A key man in the Sweden side for many a long year, Svensson played in eight Euro 2012 qualifiers and his creativity and ability to deliver from set-pieces will be valuable weapons for coach Erik Hamren in the heat of tournament battle this summer.
Svensson enjoyed a lengthy spell in the Premier League with Southampton, playing in the 2003 FA Cup final defeat against Arsenal and confirming his worth as a consistent performer. The rest of his career has been spent with Elfsborg, as he has played for the Swedish club either side of his stint on England’s south coast.
He has been a consistent performer with Sweden since 1999 and his remarkable international cap total passed the century mark in September 2009. The sands of time may be catching up with him at the age of 35, but he remains a pivotal leader of Sweden as he prepares for his sixth major international tournament.
