Miroslav Klose

While Klose has been through a few scoring droughts at club level down the years (his spell at Bayern Munich between 2007 and 2011 hardly produced the sort of scoring heroics many expected), his record at international level is more impressive than virtually every other striker taking part in Euro 2012.

Add to that his achievements in tournament football and you have a set of statistics that confirm Klose as a man to fear this summer. He scored five times in the 2002 World Cup finals, added four more on home soil in the next running of FIFA’s flagship tournament and then scored a quartet of goals in South Africa 2010. He also scored twice in Euro 2008.

Klose famously turned down the chance to play for Poland, the country of his birth, at the turn of the century and the rest, as they say, is history. Scoring nine times in just six Euro 2012 qualifying appearances, he is the striker Germany know they can rely upon this summer.

“I don’t know how long I have left as an international player and even though I have said I want to try and play on until the next World Cup, Euro 2012 may be my last big chance to win a major title with Germany,” says Klose.
