Scott Parker has admitted England will have to up their game if they are to make an impression on the later stages of Euro 2012.

England opened up their campaign with a 1-1 draw with France. Despite taking the lead through Joleon Lescott’s header, England were second best for long spells and Parker, who formed an excellent midfield partnership with captain Steven Gerrard, is looking for improvement.

"I don't know if you can win tournaments playing like that but it's a good foundation for us," Parker said. "We all put in a good shift and we got a good result. France didn't have any clear chances and we'll take the 1-1."

England’s second game in Group D is a clash with Sweden, who were beaten by Ukraine on Monday evening, and their midfielder Kim Kallstrom is aware that they need to be clinical in front of goal if they are to stand a chance of progressing.

"It's about stepping up now and hoping that we're more effective in front of goal,” he said. “Then it can go well.

"We haven't got a lot left to lose anymore. Our joker is already gone. If you want to progress it's about winning matches."
