Germany will take on Spain in the Euro 2012 final, according to Franz Beckenbauer.
Beckenbauer - a World Cup winner with Germany as both a player and a coach - is predicting a repeat of the Euro 2008 final.
Spain lifted the trophy with a 1-0 win four years ago, but Beckenbauer believes the time is right for Joachim Low’s Germany to become winners after two third-placed finishes and one as runners-up in the last three major tournaments.
“It is fantastic when you finish second or third, but then there is always something left over,'' Beckenbauer told the Kolner Stadtanzeiger newspaper.
“You can also win things, and that is something that you can force - it comes down to mentality.”
But he warned that, for all their quality, Germany would need fortune on their side to win the tournament, adding: “It is football and anything can happen.
“The ball can hit the inside of the post and bounce out rather than in the goal - but if everything goes according to plan then I see a Spain-Germany final.”
