Martin Kelly sat out England’s training session on Saturday on account of a virus.

The Liverpool defender is a controversial figure in the England squad, given he was the man drafted in to replace the injured Gary Cahill while the vastly experienced Rio Ferdinand was overlooked.

England boss Roy Hodgson likely has an eye on the future with regard to Kelly, but he is in the mix given the injury concerns in the squad.

However, Kelly has been added to the list of worries after failing to train with the rest of the squad. Ashley Cole sat out a session earlier in the week on account of a stomach upset and it remains to be seen whether the same illness has struck Kelly.

Jermain Defoe did train, having flown back to the camp in Krakow on Saturday following the death of his father during the week.

England open up their European Championship quest against France on Monday.
