Tottenham Hotspur defender Younes Kaboul will miss France's Euro 2012 campaign with a knee injury and has not been included in France's preliminary squad of 26 players.

Kaboul aggravated a long-standing knee problem in Spurs' season-closer with Fulham. "He's not fit to play in the Euro," said Laurent Blanc.

Blanc had already lost Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna to a broken leg. Yoann Gourcuff was a surprise inclusion having not played for Les Bleus since March 2011. Blanc, for whom the playmaker played his best football when they worked at Bordeaux.

Striker Loic Remy was named, but is not expected to be fit as his thigh injury rules him out for four weeks.

Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa admitted his selection caught him unawares. "It's a surprise - I wasn't expecting this. I was just having a normal day, because I wasn't thinking about the announcement," he said.

"I'm very moved by the call-up and really very happy. It reflects the excellent season Montpellier have had. Still it's only for the preliminary

squad, so I mustn't get carried away - I need to keep working hard.

"But why not think about going to the Euros? It's a reward on a personal level but also collectively. It shows that Montpellier can produce talented players."
