Netherlands full-back Erik Pieters is a major doubt for this summer's Euro 2012 tournament after suffering a hairline fracture in his right-foot in action for PSV against RKC Waalwijk last week.

Pieters, 23, had already missed four months of the season with a broken metatarsal sustained in October, but was expected to play a part for his country in the summer's tournament.

"This is very disappointing," Pieters said. "In three weeks it will be clearer and I will give 200% to get fit again."

It will now be a race against time for the left-back to get himself fully fit for the showpiece event, with Netherlands opening up their campaign against Denmark on 9 June in Kharkiv.
