Few would have backed this Dynamo defender to make it into the final 23-man squad for Russia’s Euro 2012 adventure as he has not been a part of Dick Advocaat’s plans ahead of this tournament, so it is little surprise to hear his delighted at his call-up.
“I believed I could make the grade with the international team and now I get the chance to prove the manager is right to give me this chance,” says Granat, who has been at Dynamo since 2005.
He has a smattering of Champions League experience and will hope to adapt to the high pressure environment of a major tournament if called upon. The reality is he is likely to be warming the bench this summer, but that is still progress for this international novice.
