Boateng’s brother Kevin Prince may be satisfied with his decision to represent Ghana, but Berlin-born Jerome had no doubt that he wanted to represent the Nationalmannschaft and he duly made his senior debut for Joachim Low’s side in 2009 and he had the curious pleasure of playing against his brother in the 2010 World Cup finals.
Boateng’s apparently unstoppable rise to the top of the game was temporarily halted when his £10 million move from Hamburg to Manchester City in the summer of 2010 failed to reap the rewards club or player would have wanted, but he has enjoyed more success since returning to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
At home in the heart of the defence, Boateng is more likely to fill a right-back role at Euro 2012, which has been something of a problem area for coach Low in the last couple of years. “I don’t mind where the coach asks me to play and I’m confident of doing a job for Germany this summer,” insists Boateng.
