Stipe Pletikosa

Pletikosa needed to end his existence as a reserve keeper at Premier League side Tottenham last summer, with his position in Croatia’s Euro 2012 squad under threat by his lack of first team activity following his fruitless move to London.

A switch to the Russian league solved his problem and he went on to play a crucial role in Croatia’s progression to this summer’s finals, keeping four successive clean sheets as he guarded his nation’s goal in their final two qualifiers and the emphatic play-off victory against Turkey.

This experienced stopper, who lists Shakhtar Donetsk and Spartak Moscow among his previous employers, played at a variety of junior levels for the Croatian national team before making his senior debut against Denmark in 1999 and he has been present for some of their finest triumphs in the years that have followed, with his displays in Euro 2008 earning him plaudits from plenty of observers.
