One of the shining lights of the Greek national team, Papastathopoulos has warmed up for Euro 2012 in a competitive environment as he has seen plenty of first team action in the German Bundesliga this season while on loan at Werder Bremen.
After making his name with AEK Athens, he caught the eye of Genoa scouts and after a successful spell at the Serie A side, he was snapped up by mighty AC Milan in 2010, but a series of complex co-ownership wrangling saw him return to Genoa before he was sent out on loan to Germany last summer.
The move has proved to be an ideal platform for Papastathopoulos to prove his worth on a big stage, with the star turn who played in eight of his nation’s Euro 2012 qualifiers looking to be in fine form ahead of taking in some tournament action this summer. This will be his second major international competition after he made an impression in all four of Greece’s games at the World Cup finals two years ago.
