There have been a few players flocking to sign up for the Polish national team ahead of Euro 2012 and Boenisch is among those who have switched allegiances in a bid to play for the host of this summer’s tournament.
A star turn for Germany’s junior international sides, this Polish-born defender was reluctant to fully commit himself to his adopted nation and his caution led to him turning down the chance to represent the Nationalmannschaft. He will become a Poland star for the rest of his career if he finally plays his first competitive international at Euro 2012.
Boenisch’s lack of first team action at club level this season has not boosted his hopes of regular tournament action, but he will be keen to impress as he looks to seal a move away from Werder Bremen in the coming weeks. He is in a relationship with the 2006 Miss Austria, Tatjana Batinic.
