One of the most celebrated Danish players of his era, Poulsen is closing in on his 100th international cap, which would be a fitting reward for a play maker who made his debut for the national team more than a decade ago.
Listing FC Copenhagen, Schalke, Sevilla, Juventus and Liverpool among his former clubs, he became one of the rare examples of a player who has played in all-five of Europe’s major leagues when he signed for French side Evian last summer. Now that’s a handy little fact to throw into a football quiz with your pals during this summer of Euro 2012 action.
The suspicion may be that Poulsen’s best days are behind him and that certainly seemed to be the case when he failed to make any sort of impression during his spell at Liverpool last season. That said, he remains a central player in this Danish set-up and his seven qualifying appearances suggested he will have a big role to play this summer as either a starter or a calming substitute.
