A first pick in central midfield alongside the equally unheralded Glenn Whelan, Andrews has plenty of critics in Ireland and yet he always give total commitment to his nation’s cause.

After establishing himself as one of Giovanni Trapattoni’s first choice midfielders during the 2010 World Cup qualifying push, he went on to play a crucial role in the Euro 2012 campaign and heads into the finals in decent form after impressive in West Brom colours following his move from Blackburn last January.

A scorer in the Euro 2012 play-off victory against Estonia, he is relishing his chance to become an Ireland hero in a major tournament. “We got so close to qualifying for the last World Cup and it was cruel the way that was taken away from us with Thierry Henry’s infamous handball in the game against France, but we made sure we got over the qualifying line this time and we look forward to causing a few more upsets this summer,” says Andrews.
