This highly talented performer may well be a star turn in many a Euro 2012 team this summer, but he is unfortunate to find himself in a Spanish era where world class is oozing out of this squad.
At his best, Cazorla is a thrilling match winner, capable of terrorising the best of defenders with his pace and trickery and he made his mark in Spain’s stunning qualifying performances en route to this summer’s finals, playing in five games and always looking lively when his chance came.
A €21m signing for Malaga from Villarreal in the summer of 2011, he made his international breakthrough back in 2008 when he was a surprise pick for Spain’s European Championship finals side selected by Luis Aragones and he went on to make an impression in the tournament that saw him collect a prized winners medal.
After missing out on the 2010 World Cup finals triumph due to injury, Cazorla will be eager to add to his tournament experience this summer and he is certainly talking confidently as the favourites look for another title. “We are lucky to be part of a very special Spain squad and the challenge for all of us is to make the most of this moment,” says Cazorla. “That can only mean winning Euro 2012.”
