Many a sceptic questioned whether Jelavic could convert his scoring form from the Scottish Premier League to English football’s top flight after his move from Rangers to Everton in January, but he has answered his critics in the grand manner.
Not only has he scored goals in the Premier League, he has done the business against top teams in big moments, as Jelavic has confirmed he is more than good enough to mix it with the best and that must be good news for Croatia ahead of their Euro 2012 adventure.
A regular contributor of the Croatian qualifying campaign for this tournament, Jelavic often came off the bench to make his mark for Slaven Bilic’s team, but his form in the run up to this tournament may just give him a chance to start a few games as his country look to cause a few upsets in Poland and Ukraine this summer.
“Nikica is a natural goal scorer and also a creator of chances,” says coach Bilic of the striker nick-named ‘Flying Fortress’ in his homeland. “His form gives me a wonderful selection problem.”
