Nazarenko was a fixture in the Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk midfield between 1999 and 2011 and it still seems odd to see him turning out for another team, with his move to Tavriya Simferopol last year ensuring he would not end his career as a one-club man after all.
He made his Ukraine national team debut in November 2003 against Macedonia and one of his proudest moments in the golden international shirt was bagging a famous winning that beat England in a World Cup qualifier in Dnipropetrovsk in October 2009. He was also on target in the thrilling 3-3 friendly draw with Germany last November.
“We seem to play at our best when the big teams are up against us and everyone will remember that victory against England when we play them again in Ukraine this summer,” says Nazarenko. “No one gives us much chance in Euro 2012, but this is a position we are happy in. We like being underdogs.”
