Alexei Berezutsky

Playing alongside his identical twin brother Sergei for club and country, Berezutski made six appearances in Russia’s Euro 2012 qualifying push and now comes the challenge of hanging onto his place in Dick Advocaat’s plans for this summer’s football festival.

Since making his debut against Cyprus in February 2003, Berezutski has been a steady member of the Russian side as either a centre-back or full-back and he has even captained his country in the past, as he confirmed maturity is being added to his natural ability.

The Berezutski brothers hit the headlines back in 2009 when they failed a drugs test following a Champions League tie against Manchester United, but UEFA showed leniency on the pair as they were merely handed a one-match ban when it was revealed they took a medicine for cold and did not realise it was on the banned substance list.
