After starting out at PSV Eindhoven, Huntelaar needed to move onto Heerenveen to launch his career in earnest and he did just that by smashing goals galore in the Dutch top flight before being snapped up by Ajax in 2006.
When he repeated those scoring feats with the Amsterdam giants, the biggest clubs in the game came calling for his services, yet making the leap from Eredivisie to the spine tingling stage that is Real Madrid’s Bernabeu proved a step too far for Huntelaar when he moved to the Spanish capital in 2009. Since then, he has been trying to rebuild his reputation with spells at AC Milan and Schalke.
However, no-one in Holland lost with Huntelaar and why would they after his magnificent Euro 2012 qualifying record saw him bag 12 goals and top the scoring charts with a host of match winning displays. Outshining team-mate Robin van Persie, there is no doubt this hit-man can be a goal machine when he is comfortable in his surroundings and his confidence is flowing.
Now there is talk all over again he is a target of clubs as big as Manchester United and if he carries his qualifying form into the Euro 2012 finals, the race for his signature is bound to hot up once more.
