Few saw the call-up of this former FC Moscow full-back coming in the build-up to Euro 2012, but coach Dick Advocaat clearly believed he needed to add some fresh blood to his ranks for Euro 2012 and this former star of the under-21 national team fitting his bill.
“I never expected to get a call to play in this tournament,” admits Nababkin. “Once the Russian championship had finished, I was relaxing and trying to have some time away from football, but this was a great surprise. I’m fit and ready and hopefully my chance will come at Euro 2012.”
A full-back who showed great potential in his formative years, he has not quite shot to the international prominence many were predicting for him a few years ago. Maybe he is about to prove he is a late bloomer on the international stage.
