Ukraine boss Oleh Blokhin has shown a eagerness to hand youthful players their chance in the run up to Euro 2012 and Konoplyanka has been among those doing his best to make the most of the opportunities that have come his way.
A cool and collected customer on the ball, he has a fine range of passing and the ability to pick open a defence with a well-weighted through ball. These qualities have helped to establish this 22-year-old as one of the most promising players in Ukraine and he believes he is ready to make his mark on the big stage this summer.
“Expectation may not be big for Ukraine across Europe, but the opposite is true for us as players and for the supporters who will watch us this summer,” says Konoplyanka. “As a nation, this is a moment that we may never witness again and we have to make the most of it in front of our own fans. If we believe we are good enough to compete, everything is possible.”
